The locker room vibe is mixed but most are happy for Jeff. Even the Company has been impressed with Hardy’s work ethic, and making sure that CM Punk goes over.
Yet the mixed feelings of Hardy’s departure dwell on the fact that there are not enough main event stars to keep Smackdown afloat; hence, the WWE have been working to push guys like John Morrison and Dolph Ziggler.
I’ve already touched base on how Ziggler is being pushed – if you haven’t yet, you can read it here (Dolph Ziggler).
This is the sequel to the article John Morrison: Rise of the Shaman.
Morrison was in an unbelievable winning streak ever since he was drafted to Smackdown, but his match 2 weeks ago presented a possible shift in the tides of the superstars.
Having pinned the World Heavyweight Champion the Smackdown prior to The Bash, Morrison seemed primed for a title match – but after losing to Dolph Ziggler what would it mean?
The Ziggler match was by far one of Morrison’s finest – since the WWE Universe continued to witness the fluid agility of the Friday Night Delight.
Morrison draws his flexibility from his core, which allows him to do possibly anything from Monkey flips, to moonsaults, and – as seen during the Ziggler match – a spinning corkscrew from the side of the ring. However Morrison was cheated out of the win because Ziggler had a hold of his tights.
Yet, was the match an indicator that Morrison's push was being pulled back? Well, CM Punk was granted a nontitle rematch against Morrison to correct the loss.
CM Punk, looking more and more like a class heel, became more aggressive in his match up against Morrison – luckily his eye was not an issue this week. As the saying goes, you have to give the devil his dues – Punk executed a beautiful Double Underhook Backbreaker. This is the second great new counter Punk has come up with during his encounters with the Guru of Greatness – the first being a Boston crab countering Morrison’s knee to the face. But once again Morrison bested Punk with another pinning counter from the lariat takedown; thus, proving Morrison not only can win a match without a finisher, but that his win against Punk was not a fluke.
So if there was any belief that Morrison’s push was being aborted, thing again.
On last night’s WWE Superstars, Morrison went one on one with “The Big Red Machine” Kane. This match was anything short than amazing athleticism on the part of Morrison; in possibly one of the most amazing chokeslam counters – Morrison, being set up for the Chokeslam, evaded with a 360 spin and struck with a mid-rope flying Chuck Kick!
Then Kane tried to shift the momentum by going for the top rope; yet, Morrison struck with a pele kick. Knowing that he had lost all momentum – Kane struck Morrison with a midair chair shot; therefore, Morrison was automatically declared the victor. But the night didn’t end without Morrison returning the impact with a chair shot of his own.
As Jeff Hardy leaves the WWE, we may see the passing of the torch to his former rival and soon to be World Heavyweight Champion – John Morrison.
