SmackDown Results: 3/26/10 - Money in the Bank Picks

The final installment of Friday Night SmackDown (WWE programming period) before WrestleMania featured a SmackDown vs. RAW 10-man tag match showcasing all the Money in the Bank Qualifiers.

Dolph Ziggler and Kofi Kingston start the match.

Dolph Ziggler earned his shot for Money in the Bank by pinning R-Truth in a Triple Threat Match against the now-#1 contenders for ShoMiz's Unified Tag Team Titles.

As far as ability is concerned, Ziggler is in great physical shape and has gone toe to toe with the likes of Rey Mysterio and John Morrison during his I-C pursuit. He also scored a victory over Shelton Benjamin on WWE Superstars a few weeks ago.

Now, does Dolph Ziggler have the advantage to win this year's MitB? Not necessarily. Dolph is quick to anger and applies slow moving submissions. In a ladder match, one must make quick decisions in an instant.

Can the 10th Qualifier from RAW, Kofi Kingston, provide the victory? Kofi Kingston, who captured the I-C title from current World Champion, Chris Jericho, at Night of Champions 2008, has provided the wherewithal to be a champion; especially when capturing the World Tag Team Titles with C.M. Punk, and then the United States Title from MVP during 2008-2009.

Kofi earned this opportunity by defeating Vladimir Kozlov, which just last year was the man Shawn Michaels defeated to earn his first attempt to end the Undertaker's Streak. Around Bragging Rights 2009, Kofi entered a feud with Randy Orton and provided some memorable moments, including the Boom Drop at MSG.

If anyone has a chip on their shoulder to win this match, it would be Kofi Kingston. Plus, a MitB win would definitely complete the push that WWE seems to have aborted back at the TLC pay-per-view.

Matt Hardy and Jack Swagger are tagged in.

As Matt Striker mentioned, there is no one who has more to prove in this match than Matt Hardy. The elder brother Hardy, along with younger brother Jeff, entered WrestleMania together in 2000 against Edge and Christian, and The Dudley Boys (Team 3D) in a death defying Triangle Ladder Match (the prelude to TLC matches). Since that day, Matt has captured the Cruiserweight, United States, ECW, and multiple Tag Titles, but has never grasped that brass ring. Known as the better of the two when it comes to wrestling, Matt has always been outdone by his brother when it came to World Titles. It has been Matt's dream to one day Headline WrestleMania, and though he has won 2 singles matches at 'Mania, he has yet to become a Champion.

Will Matt Hardy win? For all the Mattitude Followers out there, there would be nothing more heart warming than Matt reaching the apex of his 10 year long journey than to have a World Title opportunity. But his recent matches since ending his feud with Jeff has been below sub par. Matt Hardy has been jobbing to guys like Dolph Ziggler and The Hart Dynasty for a while. In all reality, Matt Hardy has let himself go and is not the competitor that he was 5 years ago, delivering compelling matches against Edge, and one indie match against AJ Styles.

Jack Swagger was at the height of his WWE career in ECW, capturing the ECW title within four months against Matt Hardy. He earned the opportunity to compete in MitB in a squash match against Santino Marella. But the likely hood of Swagger winning is not likely at all.

Personally one of my favorites to win the match, will not because WWE caters more to entertainers that don't necessarily have a lisp. Recruited to the WWE by Gerry Brisco and J.R., the 2x All-American from Oklahoma doesn't need to win this match, but he needs a push.

Matt Hardy tags in Shelton Benjamin.

Shelton Benjamin earned his shot in MitB by defeating the only 2-time MitB winner, C.M. Punk. So thanks to Shelton (and Rey Mysterio's distraction), there will indeed be a new Mr. MitB at this year's WrestleMania.

Knowing ladders very well, Shelton will be competing in his 5th MitB ladder match. He is another veteran to the WWE who has never held a World Title. Yet, he has captured the World Tag Team, Intercontinental, and United States Titles throughout the years.

The only momentum that Shelton has gained was a win over Dolph Ziggler on SmackDown, which was followed by a loss in the following episode of WWE Superstars. Yet, during the 10 Man Tag, Shelton proved his resilience against Jack Swagger, Evan Bourne, and MVP during a single tag.

Jack Swagger reluctantly tags in Evan Bourne.

Evan Bourne gained entry by defeating William Regal in what was believed to be the 8th and final Qualifying Match. Evan Bourne had scored impressive victories during his debut on ECW that culminated to a title shot against Matt Hardy. Bourne came up short and was later drafted to RAW.

Does Bourne's Style Benefit him in a ladder match? No. Just like every high flyer in the history of professional wrestling, Bourne will be looking to create as much spots as possible to get onto the WrestleMania highlight reel.

Would Bourne make a great MitB winner? Absolutely not. Evan has no fortitude to stand up to the likes of Sheamus, what would make anyone believe that he could main event?

Montel Vontavious Porter, once hated in the WWE has now become a favorite among fans and to win this years MitB. At WrestleMania 23, MVP defeated the late-Chris Benoit for the United States Title. If anyone can create a WrestleMania moment, it's MVP.

However, with consecutive losses to The Miz for the U.S. Title during the start of 2010, will MVP have enough momentum to win MitB?

MVP tags back out to Evan Bourne.

Shelton finally tags in to Kane.

The only former World Champion within the mist of this year's MitB is Kane. His plans to face Undertaker for the World's Title was thwarted several times by Rey Mysterio and Chris Jericho.
Kane earned his spot in this year's MitB by granting Drew McIntyre his first* loss, just 5 days removed of failing to best McIntyre for the Intercontinental Title at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view.

Obviously the tallest man in the MitB may have the advantage. His advantage lies in the fact that he doesn't care about creating spots. He is like a bulldozer, crush everyone in the way.

Kane tags in Matt Hardy who shortly tags in Dolph Ziggler.

Bourne escapes and tags in Christian.

The odds on favorite to win this year's MitB, Christian is riding a wave of momentum that the peeps are more than happy about. A veteran of ladder matches, Christian had an impressive run as the ECW Champion and defended it against the likes of Jack Swagger, Tommy Dreamer, William Regal, Ezekiel Jackson, Yoshi Tatsu, Zack Ryder, and most impressively against Shelton Benjamin.

Since returning to WWE, questions of whether Christian could still perform in a ladder match were answered at the TLC ppv when he defended the title in a show stealer Ladder match against Shelton Benjamin.

Now the question remains is if Captain Charisma can be called Mr. Money in the Bank?

Drew interfered with the potential 3-count.

Drew McIntyre is scorned by the other 9 members of the MitB Qualifiers because of the nepotism of Mr. McMahon. *Drew lost his first match against Kane but it was expunged by McMahon. Therefore, Drew was granted another shot at MitB against Matt Hardy. But Matt Hardy won that match which granted Drew his 2nd first loss, until McMahon erased that from the books. Drew's third and final shot at MitB was against a local wrestler who may never be heard from again, which was basically McMahon gift wrapping Drew a spot.

According to the realm of WWE and McMahon, Drew's official first lost was dished out by The Undertaker last week. Seeing as Drew has already qualified to compete at 'Mania, and the fact that it is The Undertaker, that loss remained in the record books.

Drew's interference between Christian and Dolph Ziggler caused an outbreak of all the other competitors to run rampant in the ring. But none more impressive than Kane, who delivered a double choke slam to Evan Bourne and Kofi Kingston.

Match's End.

The match ended with Christian delivering the Killswitch to Dolph Ziggler, however, McIntyre had tagged himself in and quickly executed the Future Shock DDT to win the match for Team SmackDown.

Drew then placed a ladder in the ring as a foreshadowing of things to come, but Kofi, Swagger, MVP, Bourne, Christian, Shelton, Kane, Dolph, and Matt reentered the ring to knock McIntyre off the ladder (from a safe height).

In all honesty, Matt Hardy and Jack Swagger would make great Money in the Bank winners, but the three main picks comes down to Christian, MVP, and Kofi Kingston.

Mysterio in Family Feuds?

As Rey shared his personal life to the WWE Universe and started singing to his daughter Aaliyah on her birthday, C.M. Punk, and The Straightedge Society, interrupted the festivities.

Mysterio's family were scared, especially little Aaliyah who was in tears at C.M. Punk's frighting melody. Either the Mysterio household never bothered to follow up on Rey's feud with C.M. Punk, or Punk smells worse than he looks. The latter is probably untrue, but the Mysterio household, I feel, was forced into this storyline.

Punk issued a WrestleMania challenge to Rey Mysterio, while demeaning him in front of his family, calling him a pathetic coward. Mysterio has not yet accepted Punk's challenge, but with only two weeks left till WrestleMania, Punk is definitely creating some intense animosity.

Bottom of the Poll for Luke Gallows

Impressively taking on Rey Mysterio last week, Luke Gallows tested his strenghts with Kane. Against one of the more established giants in the WWE, Luke Gallows went hold for hold against Kane. Even at times, Luke appeared dominate, with a suplex, and a standing frog splash.

Kane somehow managed to win the match with a chokeslam. Yet, the Straightedge Society would not be outdone as Punk struck Kane with the GTS.

Miz-erable Week for Miz

The Miz ended the week 0-3 against R-Truth. Miz was on the opposing side of a beat down by Truth and Morrison on RAW. The Miz, in a tag team match with Daniel Bryan, was pinned by Otunga and Truth on NXT. And thanks to Bryan, Miz lost his singles match against Truth on SmackDown.

David Otunga and Daniel Bryan were present at ringside during the match. Truth delivered some great offense, but Miz fought back to connect with some game changer maneuvers. The end of the match was mired in controversy as Daniel Bryan knocked off Miz's feet during a blatant pin attempt. R-Truth captialized on the distraction with the Lie Detector, gaining momentum for both WrestleMania and NXT.

Chuck Fact: Flying Chucks work on The Big Show - Fail!

On NXT, Daniel Bryan criticised Miz's career of being carried to the top by his tag team partners. Interestingly enough, this next match showcased those tag partners: The Big Show against John Morrison.

The Dynamic Duo of John Morrison and R-Truth have built some steady momentum, with a contendership win last week, beating down ShoMiz this week, and earlier in the program Truth picked up a win over Miz. But the biggest challenge is that of the World's Largest Athlete, The Big Show.

John Morrison provided every possible offense that he had, but Big Show chopped him down to size. The Big Show almost ended the match when he secured the sleeper. But Morrison was able to reach the ropes, thus breaking the hold. Morrison returned back with a flurry of kicks to the head. The end of the match came in the form of a mid-air collision when Morrison's flying Chuck Kick was stopped by a devastating knock out punch.

Despite all the loses that The Miz has incurred this past week, he can take solace in knowing that The Big Show is the other half of the Unified Tag Team Champions.

McIntyre Heading to WrestleMania, Undefeated?

Just as predicted, Vince McMahon erased McIntyre's second loss and placed him in another Money in the Bank qualifier. One would assume that after Evan Bourne won this past Monday, bringing the total to 8 contestants, that McIntyre would be out of WrestleMania? But when you have McMahon on your side, anything is possible, just ask Batista.

Teddy Long modified Drew's third MitB Qualifier as a Winner Takes All match, in which the Intercontinental Title would also be at stake. If Drew were to lose this match, he would not only miss out on WrestleMania, but he would no long her the I-C Champion. After defeating a local wrestler, Drew McIntyre retained his title and became the 9th participant in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match. My prediction is that the MitB match will be evened out to 10 contestants, which will include Kofi Kingston as the most qualified qualifier.

Grudge between Edge and Big Show

Last week, Edge competed in one of the most impressive main-events to date on SmackDown, against The Miz. Holding a victory over one-half of the Unified Tag Team Champions, it is only a matter of time before the other-half pays a visit. Most people just assume that it is a tag team thing, collect victories over the dominating tag team and you gain momentum. But there is a significance of Edge taking on The Big Show.

The whole feud between Edge and Chris Jericho started when they won the Unified Tag Team Championships at The Bash. They were the dream team, the two most diabolic Canadians in all of the WWE, but tragedy struck when Edge injured his Achilles tendon. As a result, Chris Jericho replaced him with The Big Show at Night of Champions. Chris Jericho, during his Slammy speech, thanked Edge for getting injured or else he would have never had the opportunity to make the Big Show his partner.

This strange dialogue between Show and Edge comes from Adam Sandler's film, Happy Gilmore. In the movie, Shooter McGavin was the big shot in the golfing world, while Happy Gilmore (Adam Sandler) was the guy who didn't have a chance. In addition, Happy Gilmore was also an aspiring hockey player, which further connects Gilmore with Edge. The use of this dialogue could be a reminder of Show's role as Captain Insano in The Waterboy; the possibility of Adam Sandler hosting Monday Night RAW; or a set up to Show's film Knucklehead where he plays a quirky giant.

Call it what you will McMahon, but last week, Drew McIntyre did suffer his first loss to Kane. But, by order of Vince McMahon, the loss was erased from the record books, and Drew would still be considered undefeated. And because Drew never lost that match, and Kane just so happened to qualify, he would be given another qualifying match against Matt Hardy.

Accompanied by his NXT rookie, Justin Gabriel, Matt Hardy delivered Drew's first official loss. Drew McIntyre truly impressive in this match, made several attempts to ground Matt Hardy. With a series of headlocks, abdominal stretches, and a Northern Lights pin, Drew appeared unstoppable in his WrestleMania quest. Drew even evaded a Twist of Fate and went straight for Future Shock, but Matt Hardy countered with a back drop. Then Drew offset Hardy's second Twist of Fate into a Jackknife pin, but Hardy would shift McIntyre into a victory roll for the win.

In total disbelief of losing two weeks in a row, Drew McIntyre vowed that he would make it to WrestleMania. Drew has two options: he can either defend his Intercontinental Title at WrestleMania, or he can sneak over to RAW and compete in the final Money in the Bank Qualifying Match.

Dolph Ziggler not up to Gold Standard
Dolph Ziggler vs. Shelton Benjamin

Dolph Ziggler and Shelton Benjamin both qualified for Money in the Bank, but how exactly would these two match up in the ring? Shelton Benjamin, making his fifth appearance in the Money in the Bank ladder match, has the most experience not only in ladder matches but wrestling, period. Dolph Ziggler, who restarted his stagnant career by qualifying, is an amateur compared to The Gold Standard. Ziggler let his temper get the best of him, and once again, attempted a sleeper hold. And to refute what Matt Striker says during this move, no, Dolph Ziggler has not executed the sleeper to perfection. If the sleeper was executed correctly, then the opponent would collapse and not be able to struggle free. The last two moves of the match were sloppy, when Ziggler tried to strike with the Zig-zag, and then struck with PayDirt, Ziggler did not fall the right way. No matter how the move looked, Shelton Benjamin picked up the win.

The Book of Ezekiel condemns Asian Rednecks
Ezekiel Jackson vs. Jimmy Wang Yang

When Jimmy Wang Yang stands in the ring that can only mean one thing, it is time for a squash match. The final ECW Champion, as written in the WWE record books, Ezekiel Jackson was signed to SmackDown by Teddy Long. Aside from a few drop kicks by Yang, Ezekiel decimated him with the Book of Ezekiel (Ura-nage).

Luke Gallows, better than expected
Luke Gallows vs. Rey Mysterio

Unlike his Festus in-ring gimmick, Luke Gallows is a competent wrestler. His match against Mysterio was top-notch to what he brings to the Straightedge Society. Despite losing the match, Gallows forcibly latched onto Mysterio and flung him to the turnbuckle. He would then ground Mysterio with a chin lock, evade a crossbody with a throw-a-way slam, and power out of Rey's Dragon Sleeper by inching his body towards the ropes.

Mysterio attempted the 619, but this is where the Straightedge is so resourceful because they are so deceptive, utilizing every member as Serena blocked Mysterio off from the 619. Scenes of NXT, C.M. Punk looked to distract Mysterio long enough for Gallows to capitalize, but he shifted his weight and caught Gallows in a roll-up.

C.M. Punk-Rey Mysterio bout at WrestleMania is coming along nicely, but the following weeks needs to focus on Mysterio's past drug addictions, in which he admitted to in his book.

John Morrison reverts back to tag teaming
(#1 Contender's Triple-Threat Tag Team Match) John Morrison and R-Truth vs. The Hart Dynasty vs. Cryme Tyme

Last week, John Morrison and R-Truth let Dolph Ziggler get in the way of their WrestleMania dreams, but, together, they have one last opportunity. A Triple-Threat Tag Team Tournament to determine the #1 contenders for ShowMiz's Unified Tag Team Titles. Morrison and Truth came up with such team names as "This n' that," "Black Magic and the White Shadow," "Rock n' Rap," or simply "The New Unified Tag Team Champions."

Also in the tournament were The Hart Dynasty and Cryme Tyme. The most seasoned team in this tournament were The Hart Dynasty, and with Bret Hart having possibly his final match at WrestleMania, it would have been a special night for all the Harts to compete. As for Cryme Tyme, they are going through the motions that unsuccessful tag teams go through before either being split up, or released.

Shad Gaspard started the match against John Morrison before David Hart Smith could sneak in a tag. D.H. impressively executed three belly-to-back suplexes in a row, with John Morrison as his sparring partner. Then JTG would add on to Morrison's punishment. The majority of the match was focused on John Morrison, instead of The Hart Dynasty. In WWE story-telling, this is usually an indicator that Morrison-Truth would go on to win the match. Which, after Morrison tagged in R-Truth and performed a crossbody knocking over both DH and Shad out of the ring, Truth connected with the Lie Detector on Tyson Kidd for the win.

During a dark match at WrestleMania 25, the WWE and World Tag Team Titles were unified after The Miz and John Morrison lost to The Colons. This year, The Miz and John Morrison, once the greatest tag team of the 21st Century, are now on opposing sides. Not exactly the type of match that John Morrison would best be utilized, since showing a strong performance a few weeks ago inside the Elimination Chamber, as the last of three competitors. The big match on the card is Edge facing Chris Jericho for the World Heavyweight Title, but a tag team match for John Morrison is a step back.

Edge vs. The Big Show

The World's Largest Athlete has claimed many a victory with the Kayo punch, but Edge has vowed to spear his way to his 10th World Title reign. The last time these two confronted was during last year's WrestleMania, in a Triple-Threat Match in which Edge was the defending champion. But with the passing of a year comes new rivalries.

Edge, just coming back from a career-ending injury, has been non stop at main-eventing every SmackDown since. But after getting hit with the initial head-butt, the tone of the match would be dictated by Big Show. He followed up with a clotheline, a chop across the chest, and a scoop slam, Show appeared unstoppable. But Edge regained momentum by striking with a neckbreaker DDT from off the top rope, and evading a chokeslam into another DDT. Then once again, Edge's promise came to fruition as a spear to the 500lb giant garnered him the victory.

Chris Jericho attempted to sneak attack Edge with the World Heavyweight Title, but Edge speared Jericho again. But after six weeks of consecutive spears to Chris Jericho, is Edge gaining too much momentum going into this match? Chris Jericho is after all the Best in the World at what he does, and what he does best is win matches. Chris Jericho did, back in the day, defeat both The Rock and Stone Cold on the same night to become Undisputed Champion, and he wasn't even in his prime. Chris Jericho, who has never fiend an injury, in the best shape of his life, is in his prime. Edge, who is taking on too many competitors in such a short return from his Achilles tendon injury, is working off his ring rust. But all that can be said is that this match will be one for the record books. Will Chris Jericho get speared yet again, or will Edge's hype fall down like Daniel Byran's when he tapped to the Liontamer?

Elimination Chamber: Intermediate Titles Retained

"The Chosen One" and "The Awesome One" retain

Hand picked by the Chairman of the WWE, Drew McIntyre's ascent in the company is apparent; he now gracefully strides to every match as a symbol of his greatness. Three weeks ago, Drew was involved in a triple-threat qualifier match against John Morrison, the former I-C champion, and Kane. While the rivalry against Morrison over the I-C belt may be over, a feud with Kane is emanate.

A title defense victory over Kane can go either one of two ways: it can either bolster McIntyre's career; or leave it stagnant. Since Kane has been used to elevate numerous superstars in the past, a victory over the Big Red Monster may be insignificant.

McIntyre and Kane's match-up was unwavering, though, there was a major difference in style. While Kane exerted brute force through diving clotheslines and boots to the face, Drew applied more technical maneuvers, such as arm locks and a double underhook DDT known as Future Shock.

Drew McIntyre's Scottish background has most likely been a burden, as he is pressured to become the next best national hero since Rowdy Piper. Dubbed as The Chosen One, Drew has been given a considerable push by becoming the Intercontinental Champion and going undefeated in single's competition since arriving in August 2009. Yet, he hasn't always won every match fairly; the thumb to the eye, obviously an illegal move, has played a vital role of insuring that the Intercontinental Title remains around his waist; hence, how he went on to successfully defend the title against Kane.

In mid-match, Drew turned away from the ring and started ascending back up the ramp in order to be counted out and retain. But Kane, unwilling to let him just walk away, nabbed and rolled him back into the ring. Then when the referee tried to separate the two, McIntyre jabbed Kane in the eye, followed by the Future Shock DDT. But who's to say that McIntyre was not deliberately luring Kane into a false sense of security in order to capitalize? With another title defense under his belt, has McIntyre seen the last of Kane?

After Vickie Guerrero postponed the Divas' Title match for a tedious RAW versus SmackDown Divas' tag team match, MVP issued another challenge for The Miz's United States Title. He claims since he pinned Miz last Monday Night on RAW, it allots him a U.S. title shot. Granted, MVP did pin Miz but in a tag team match, meaning that MVP has the right to challenge for the Unified Tag Team belts, not the single's title belt.

In the second consecutive pay-per-view of the new year, the WWE Universe were treated to another impromptu United States Title bout between the defending champion and MVP. This fifth title match was slightly different, with MVP and The Miz's tag team partners residing in their respective corners.

Since the last title defense, The Miz has become an even bigger superstar in the WWE by teaming up with The Big Show to become the Unified Tag Team Champions. Aside from the two new World Champions, no one is more impressive than "The Awesome One."

The Miz was evidently confident in his abilities as a champion without underestimating the tenacity of MVP. Last Monday, Miz was pinned by taking MVP too lightly, but after executing a double knee buster to a bridging MVP, he would not make that same mistake again. MVP, as well, put out all the stops by tossing Miz off the top turnbuckle with a Belly-to-Belly throw, and going for his signature Ballin' Elbow drop. But with Miz evading the Drive-By kick; instinctively placing his foot on the bottom rope to break a cover; and a right-handed knockout hook by The Big Show, he was able to secured another title defense against MVP. Indeed, MVP had Mark Henry in his corner, but Big Show Irish-whipped him through a barricade, which his massive body destroyed.

With another awesome title defense for The Miz, he will walk into NXT still the United States Champion, and one-half of the Unified Tag Team Champions, as he mentors the internationally famous Daniel Bryan. In addition, it looks as if The Miz and Drew McIntyre will enter WrestleMania XXVI as champions.

SmackDown Results: 2/12/10

Elimination Fury

C.M. Punk versus Rey Mysterio

Rumors are going around that C.M. Punk will be taking on Mysterio in a hair versus mask match at WrestleMania. It's no secret that Mysterio dropped the I-C Title because of his suspension, so a Jeff Hardy-like storyline can play itself out into a WrestleMania match.

This was the best match of the night, as Mysterio and C.M. Punk went at it with high-risk versus Muy Thai offense. Both of these men will be competing inside the Elimination Chamber, and both are former World Champions. C.M. Punk, a three-time champion, is looking to have a fourth-reign and continue to rule the WWE as it's savior. And inside the Chamber, Rey Mysterio will be an underdog more than ever. His high flying offense may be limited, as he really will have no where to go, as each turnbuckle will rest in front of a pod with a cased opponent.

Mysterio attempted the 619 on several points in the match, but C.M. Punk had managed to escape each one. Yet, C.M. Punk set up for the GTS was countered by Mysterio into a pinning combination.

Mysterio certainly may appear to have all the momentum, but after a beat down from the Straightedge Society, C.M. Punk may have the greater momentum.

John Morrison versus R-Truth

John Morrison and R-Truth have teamed up in the ring before, and Truth has even appeared on Morrison's WWE.com web show "The Palace of Wisdom" as "Delicious" Pretty Ricky. So these two are definitely friends in and out of the ring, but on February 21st, these two will have to put their friendship aside to contend for the World Heavyweight Title inside the Elimination Chamber.

Yet, this match was no more than two minutes old when Morrison sprained his ankle and was unable to compete. Truth could have made matters worse and started attacking the ankle, to further injure Morrison, but instead he saw to it that he was alright. The announcers focused on R-Truth's sportsmanship rather than Morrison's potential injury.

Is John Morrison going to make it to the Elimination Chamber in time? Or will his spot be reserved for Shawn Michaels?

I personally prefer that Morrison does not participate inside a career shortening stipulation, especially with the unlikelihood that creative will place the title on Morrison. The two men who are primed to capture the title are Chris Jericho, and, if he takes Morrison's spot, Shawn Michaels.

Chris Jericho versus The Undertaker [No Disqualification Match]

It has been a dream match of mine to see Chris Jericho take on The Undertaker at WrestleMania, but that does not look like the path WWE is going with. Currently, Taker's potential opponents are Shawn Michaels or Edge. At one point, people assumed that John Cena would challenge Taker, as it was teased when RAW went to MSG. Regardless of who faces Taker at 'Mania, Chris Jericho has had his fair shots at the Demon of Death Valley.

Chris Jericho believes to be an entity within the WWE, but Taker has long established himself as the Phenom of the industry. Taker did a great job as always dominating the match. At times, he was dragging Jericho around like a rag doll. This was especially emanate when Taker tossed Jericho in Edge's direction, who was doing commentary.

Edge managed to step out of the way, but suffered a boot to the face by the Undertaker. When Taker got back into the ring, he struck with The Last Ride, and looked to win the match, but Edge speared him. Jericho then struck with the Code Breaker to win the match. Taker remained strong as he dominated Jericho for most of the match, but the match was fought under no disqualification so Edge's interference was legal.

After tonight, all, except Morrison and R-Truth, have built momentum going into the Elimination Chamber. You would think that the two non-World titlist would try to build as much momentum as possible.

Women's Feud Not Over

After an altercation backstage, Vickie Guerrero forced Women's Champion, Mickie James, into a handicap match against Lay-Cool. The match was initially a one-on-one against Layla, but Vickie, covered in cottage cheese, saw it fit to make Mickie suffer.

I actually thought that Vickie would strip Mickie of the title, but luckily it did not go in that direction. Mickie sadly lost the match, as she was struck with McCool's Faith Breaker. I am still hoping for a Mickie James-Beth Phoenix build up for WrestleMania, but McCool is still entitled to her rematch.

New Threat to Intercontinental Title

Last week, Drew McIntyre almost picked up the victory in the Triple-Threat Qualifying match, by striking Kane with the Future Shock. This of course has rolled over to this week as Kane wants retribution and a shot at McIntyre's I-C Title.

McIntyre feels that he has nothing to prove to Kane, but the Big Red Monster seems to differ. The two ended up having a match which led to a double count-out outside of the ring. And according to WWE.com, an Intercontinental Title Match has been added: Drew McIntyre will defend against Kane.

By the way, what was with McIntyre's entrance theme? Apparently WWE were testing out a new theme, but it's too slow to match his intensity.

Maria Involved with a WWE Superstar, Again

Maria has "managed" the likes of Santino Marella and Dolph Ziggler, of course never adding or advancing in their careers. Maria has always been considered a pretty face, and adds appeal to the superstar she manages. She has now set her sights on a career-plummeting Matt Hardy. There are no signs that they are dating on-screen, but Matt Hardy called her his "Special Valentine" and friend.

The Team of Matt Hardy and Khali took on The Hart Dynasty again, this time, Maria was ringside. Natalya attempted to interfere with the match, but Maria swopped in and started attacking her. The lack of interference allowed Matt Hardy to strike a victory with a roll up on Tyson Kidd.

Hardy and Khali have been recently picking up victories over The Hart Dynasty, but things seem a bit brighter now that Maria Kanellis is on board. Let's just hope Khali or Hardy don't turn heel over Khali putting his Punjabi Playboy moves on the 2008 Playboy Cover Girl.

WWE Superstars Results: 2/4/10

Wasted Potential: Carlito and Evan Bourne

The following match saw Carlito against Evan Bourne.

At the Royal Rumble, Evan drew No. 2 and fought in a stalemate against entry No. 1 Dolph Ziggler. Evan had 90 seconds before the next participant to join the fray to toss Ziggler over the rope, but instead C.M. Punk eliminated both.

As for Carlito, he was equally as impressive, lasting 4:34 enough time to back stab half the participants in the ring. And who better to toss you out than Shawn Michaels?

The match on Superstars was questionable because Carlito and Bourne have been jobbing for various superstars for most of their careers. Carlito has zero drive, while Evan is happy just having his own WWE T-Shirt.

Suggestion: Either get Carlito back together with his brother, or revive the feud he should have had, and let it lead to outspoken matches, tag team matches, mix-gender matches, any series of matches will do. Have them go on Carlito's Cabana and tear the house down. There is so much potential, and they are letting it go to waste.

RAW Diva Update: Kelly-Kelly in Limelight

The opening match pitted Kelly-Kelly and Eve Torres against Jillian Hall and Katie Lea.

Lately, WWE has been favoring their youngest diva, Kelly-Kelly, as she's appeared on WWE Superstars for several weeks besting Jillian Hall. Whether teaming with Gail Kim or Eve Torres, the focus is centered on Kelly-Kelly.

Side tracking a bit, in other RAW Divas news: Maryse mentioned to Gail Kim, her opponent for the vacant Divas' Title, of how she detests the childish feud Michelle McCool has been having with Mickie James, and she does not want their match to escalate by those means. "Let's behave like women." Was Maryse being sincere to suggest that, or does she have an ulterior motive? The jury will have to agree when I say "motive!"

Now back to this divas match: Jillian Hall didn't try to sing, and Katie Lea seems lost without Paul. Honestly, if they are not going to be used to their potential, then why bother?

Kelly-Kelly and Eve Torres picked up the wins.

SmackDown Midcard Update: What to do

The main event was The Hart Dynasty and I-C Champion Drew McIntyre versus Matt Hardy, The Great Khali, and John Morrison.

Oh, how far Matt Hardy has fallen. Matt Hardy entered the Royal Rumble, executed two moves and was immediately tossed out by Kane. The past couple of weeks, he's had to forge a team with the Great Khali. Either WWE really wants nothing to do with another Hardy, or they have officially run out of things for him to do.

As for John Morrison and Drew McIntyre, the feud ended in favor of Drew McIntyre last week during a no-DQ I-C Title Match. The reason WWE paired Morrison against McIntyre in this six-man tag match is for familiarity purposes. What WWE needs is another contender for the I-C title, to keep things fresh.

Hart Dynasty needs to continue dominating a slew of singles matches, seeing as how they can't make a career out of defeating Cryme Tyme. Just recently, H.D. has been feuding with Khali and Hardy, which explains why they are in the match.

As for the match, Matt Hardy struck D.H. Smith with the Twist of Fate and, instead of going for the pin, Matt tagged in Khali. The Punjabi Playboy picked Smith up and executed the Punjabi Plunge for the win.

With the final scene of Matt and John waving their arms in the air, in a crazy attempt to make Khali look cool. Not really working guys.

SmackDown Results: 1/29/10

D-Generation-X Turning SmackDown Upside Down

D-X arrived on SmackDown to defend the Unified Tag Team Titles against the #1 contenders' C.M. Punk and Luke Gallows; however, they ran into some controversy.

Shawn Michaels is dead set on winning the Royal Rumble for another shot at ending the Undertaker's Streak, but what happens if Rey Mysterio defeats Taker this Sunday? This is a possibility that both Taker and Michaels have dismissed, which is why Rey Mysterio called Michaels out. Rey has always respected Shawn, but he feels that he doesn't respect him. Michaels flat out told Rey that he doesn't see him defeating Taker for the title. Yet, Rey stated that he'll do something Michaels nor Triple-H have been able to do at WrestleMania, which is defeat The Undertaker.

C.M. Punk interrupted Rey's challenge to Michaels and reminded everyone that D-X is here to defend the straps against Luke Gallows and himself. And when they win, they will become the first-ever "Straight-Edge" Unified Tag Team Champions. Triple-H then entered an amateur comedy-hour segment with C.M. Punk and his merry crew. Such zingers as: "I'm relieved to know that you're Straight."... "Maybe take them clippers out of the bag, shave that squirrel off you got on your chin." Triple-H's jokes were gold in this segment, but that's because he's a cocky jerk.

Then Teddy R. Long came out and announced that D-X would not be defending the titles, but instead Shawn Michaels would be taking on Rey Mysterio in the main event, and C.M. Punk would take on Triple-H immediately.

C.M. Punk's Evolution

For three weeks, C.M. Punk has been turning people over to the straight-edge lifestyle, but Serena has been the only one to show face the following week. Will she eventually be integrated into the divas' division? That has yet to be decided, but that is probably the course of action that will take place after this cult dissipates.

The announcers have mentioned that Triple-H has been a part of two of the biggest factions in the WWE, and has mentored the likes of Randy Orton and Batista, who are now mega-stars; will The Straight-Edge Society be one day considered as one of the best factions in professional wrestling? The Society has Luke Gallows and Serena, which we witnessed the vital roles they play for C.M. Punk. Luke sucker punched Helmsley behind the ref's back, and Serena provides distractions and a shield for Punk to hide behind.

C.M. Punk has truly evolved into the main-event scene, something he was able to fill three years ago during his encounters with Kane and Batista. C.M. Punk was lucky enough to become the World Heavyweight Champion by cashing in his first Money in the Bank briefcase, but he was considered a paper champion because he didn't belong in the main-event, until now. His match with Triple-H, possibly one of the most decorated men in the WWE, was incredible. Most would assume that Triple-H would have owned the match, this may have been true a few years ago, but Punk has stepped up his game. C.M. Punk went toe-to-toe with the Cerebral Assassin, withstanding the pressure of the figure-four leg lock, and breaking away from the Pedigree. However, a conclusion to this match was too good to be witnessed on SmackDown, hence the disqualification that took place when Serena jumped the back of Triple-H during the second Pedigree attempt.

C.M. Punk has what it takes to defeat Triple-H, and this match is just the beginning to when they finally meet in their Unified Tag Team Match.

R-Truth Breaks Down the Walls

Chris Jericho and R-Truth have danced around with each other in several match-ups, but where is this going? R-Truth failed his United States Title quest when first returning to the WWE; he was the stepping stone for Drew McIntyre; and he failed to see through a feud with C.M. Punk. But unlike the past weeks teaming up with either Cryme Tyme or John Morrison, R-Truth's match with Chris Jericho would be one-on-one.

R-Truth dances around and breaks out a wrestling move once in a while, usually administering mid-air spinning kicks. Despite being unorthodox in his wrestling skill set, Ron "The Truth" Killings not only held his ground against Chris Jericho, but he countered the Walls of Jericho into an Oklahoma roll-up, then withstood the Code Breaker by holding onto the ropes and going for a bridge-pin for the win.

Chris Jericho is not only there for himself, but to create superstars in the process. Will R-Truth finally start moving up the ranks in the WWE?

No-DQ for I-C Title

John Morrison lost the Intercontinental Title to Drew McIntyre at the TLC pay-per-view, and lost his rematch on New Years' Day. Can John Morrison defeat the undefeated Drew McIntyre in a No Disqualification Match for the I-C Title?

John Morrison mentioned how, when lost the title, Drew McIntyre dropped the I-C title backstage to give a chest bump to Sheamus. Now, Morrison is all for celebrating, seeing as he is a rock star, but is that how you treat the Intercontinental Title? John Morrison is a three-time I-C champion, and it was not until he defeated Rey Mysterio that he understood the importance of being the I-C champion.

John Morrison attempted to end the streak of Drew McIntyre and reclaim his title on the same night, but a no DQ match was too unpredictable. Drew pulled out a kendo stick from under the ring and struck Morrison several times before discarding it and going for the cover inside the ring. But the kendo stick would come into play later on in the match by Morrison. After delivering a flying forearm over the barricade, Morrison used the Kendo stick to attack but was hit with a thumb to the eye. Drew then tired using the stick but was launched in the air and spine-first into the steel steps, with an arm drag by John Morrison.

Morrison's undoing came when he dragged McIntyre back into the ring and to execute Starship Pain. McIntyre used the time to recuperate enough to lift his knees at the last second; and then disgraced Morrison by connecting with the double underhook DDT over the Intercontinental Championship.

This was most likely Morrison's final shot at the I-C title, and it is time that Morrison refocuses and moves forward to the next rung in the WWE ladder.

Bad Taste for Mock Women's Title Match

Michelle McCool claimed that Mickie James was done with WWE after last week's farewell, and that she would not have an opponent for this Sunday. She also reassured everyone that she was a fighting champion and would take on anyone who felt that they could defeat her for the Women's Title.

Now, a few names came to mind on who could face McCool: Beth Phoenix, Natalya. But instead, Mick's theme sounded, but Layla showed up in a fat suit and pig snout, pretending to be Mickie James. This storyline has reached its expiration, and the mock title match was by far the most disgusting and degrading display of garbage that WWE has produced.

Michaels-Mysterio, The One?

Shawn Michaels and Rey Mysterio have reached the peak of their careers by winning the Royal Rumble. Shawn Michaels entered in at No. 1 and won the '95 Royal Rumble but lost that year's WrestleMania. Then, the following year, Michaels entered at No. 18 to win the Royal Rumble, and go on to realize his dream by defeating Bret Hart in an Iron Man Match at WrestleMania for the coveted WWE Title. In 2006, Rey Mysterio entered in at No. 2 to win both the Royal Rumble and go on to capture the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 22. Both have their history in the Royal Rumble, and both have come out as champions because of it.

The match showcased possibly the two most passioned competitors in the WWE today. The last time we saw these two fight was in 2005, in honor of the late Eddie Guerrero. Shawn Michaels is no stranger to the luchadore style, as he was trained by Jose Lothario, who taught him the style. Michaels was the first white kid to ever do a moonsault, something that was only reserved for luchadores in his time.

When Michaels connected with the elbow drop, and the Indian Death Lock, Michaels showed Mysterio why he will go on to win the Royal Rumble. But Mysterio attempted to win with the 619, but was superkicked in mid-air by Shawn Michaels.

And just like Punk and Triple-H, this match was too good to be decided on SmackDown, as Batista attacked both Michaels and Mysterio. Triple-H came to Michaels rescue, as Michaels did for Triple-H earlier. Triple-H clashed with Batista and tossed him over the top rope. Batista may feel that he can overpower and hurt anyone who stands in his way, but what happens when the guy you are left with is the man who mentored you in Evolution.

Then the bells tolled, and The Undertaker appeared in the ring to deliver a double chokeslam to Michaels and Mysterio. The Undertaker fears no opponent, because they must go through hell before trying to get to heaven.

SmackDown Results: 1/22/10

Batista's Royal Rumble Promise

The opening bout of the night was "The Animal" Dave Batista versus Finlay. You know... we shouldn't even call Batista Dave anymore, because that implies a sign of kindness, which is clearly not the case. Finlay, on the other hand, is tapping into the Celtic Warrior deep inside by sporting the red hair, instead of the Eminem blonde fade. The two had a gruesome back and forth tussle as the action was forced out of the ring. The referee called for the bell after both competitors failed to return to the ring. However, that didn't stop Batista from tossing Finlay into the announce table, the turnbuckle, and finishing him off in the ring to prove a point.

The point was Batista staking his claim that he will win the Royal Rumble, and challenge the Undertaker at WrestleMania. The Undertaker seems to have a price on his head as Shawn Michaels also looks to challenge him by winning the Royal Rumble.

One Nation, Under Punk

During the past two weeks, C.M. Punk secured two followers, and has now been self-depicted as a savior. This week, a young woman jumped over the barricade, and made her way to touch Punk's shirt; which is very biblical, seeing as a woman once touched Jesus' cloak in order to be healed. The harbinger of sobriety called forth Serena to heal her sins. C.M. Punk is no longer just mocking the pledge of allegiance.... he's taking on a Christ-like persona; except, Christ did not look for praise. Serena took the pledge by having C.M. Punk shave her hair. In this over-drawn segment, C.M. Punk managed to hold the audience's attention without doing a single wrestling move. I consider that an accomplishment, proving that losing the World Heavyweight Title has not slowed down his momentum one bit.

Amazing Showmanship

Initially a handicap match pitting John Morrison against Chris Jericho and Drew McIntyre, Teddy Long evened the match by teaming JoMo with R-Truth. Despite Long turning it into a tag team match, Jericho and McIntyre kept Morrison in their corner, cutting him off from R-Truth.

When The Hart Dynasty placed Jericho in the Hart Attack weeks ago, it was evident that Chris Jericho was a vital part on the elevated star power on SmackDown. Chris Jericho is a phenomenal athlete and a sure fire Hall of Famer, but his caliber of excellence did not occur overnight, he started out as a nobody and strived to the main event scene. Now, he is giving back by helping the youngings, like Drew McIntrye, by showcasing their potential, most of the time through interrupting the announce team, or just by allowing them to shine in the ring.

One of John Morrison's greatest attributes is his endurance in the ring, as this match proved, as he was blocked off from R-Truth for a good eight minutes. Eventually, Truth did get the tag and won the match after Morrison struck Jericho with a pele pick from the outside. It may have been a deceitful way to win, but Morrison's performance alone garners the victory.

Women's Wrestling Not Dead

I would like to take this time to congratulate the women of SmackDown for proving that the WWE is not dead when it comes to Women's Wrestling.

The segment started off with Michelle McCool and Layla, who threw Mickie James a premature "Going Away" Party. Since the Divas' draft, which saw Mickie and Beth Phoenix to SmackDown, Michelle McCool has done everything to eliminate the new threats. Mickie James, being the only fighting babyface on SmackDown, has staked her claim on recapturing the Women's Title. McCool is afraid of the threat that Mickie poses to the Women's Title, so for women, what better way to asses the situation than by destroying their self-esteem? Which has spawned into Lay-Cool's "Piggy James" taunts, with the intent that Mickie will chose to leave SmackDown on her own.

The Slammy Award Winning Diva of the Year, Maria made an unexpected appearance. Recall 2004-2009, Maria had a bubbly dumb-red head personality, but when she entered that ring to confront Lay-Cool, I was impressed. She carried herself as a strong independent woman, which is really what WWE is trying to convey about women.

Mickie James arrived and expressed, in a passionate speech, that real women are short, tall, fat, skinny, curvy, and so forth... Mickie then brought the fight to Michelle, as Maria roughed up Layla. However, Beth Phoenix arrived and sided with Lay-Cool. Similar to Triple-H, Beth Phoenix is a tweener, for lack of a better term; meaning that she can move between heel or face, it doesn't matter, as long as she's #1. Currently, Mickie James is the only threat to Beth Phoenix, seeing as she herself lost the Women's Title to Mickie in 2008. While, in regards to Michelle McCool, Beth knows that she can defeat her at anytime.

Mickie James was held down to get hit in the face with a pig-shaped cake, and doused with red punch. If Mickie was not considering leaving the company, she may now. However, Mickie James will be contending for the Women's Title at The Royal Rumble.

Kane, The Eliminator

The following match up saw Cryme Tyme take on Charlie Haas and Mike Knox. For a moment, when the lights went red, I thought Kane would resume his feud with Mike Knox, but instead he tossed everyone from over the top rope. Kane does hold the record for most eliminations in a single Royal Rumble, so can he win big at his 12th Royal Rumble? If Kane were to win, it would mark the third time these two fought at WrestleMania.

Matt Hardy does it Alone

The third, and final, tag team match of the night was Matt Hardy and The Great Khali against The Hart Dynasty. Matt Hardy took on Tyson Kidd and David Hart Smith, practically, by himself because Tyson gave Natalya the idea to distract Khali, which she did beautifully. In Khali's defense, you can't hate the playa, hate the game... now if we can only get Runjin to translate.

The Harts attempted to execute the Hart Attack on Matt Hardy, but he shoved Smith - knocking Kidd off the ropes - and pinned Smith with a small package roll up. So much for Natalya having a bright future anytime soon.

Mysterio Digs his own Grave

Four years ago, Rey Mysterio won the Royal Rumble and went on to win the big one at WrestleMania.; and next Sunday, Mysterio looks to relieve that dream by defeating The Undertaker. Undertaker restates, "I will defeat you," bold words for a small man.

Out of nowhere, Batista attacked Mysterio with two spinebusters, and escaped through the crowd. Is Rey Mysterio digging his own grave, or will he be holding the shovel at the top of the mound?

SmackDown Results: 1/1/10

The Straight-Edge Pledge. CM Punk, accompanied by his disciple Luke Gallows, asked the audience about their New Year's Resolutions, and how many of them broke it within the first day. Punk has grown tired of preaching time and time again to a relentless audience, so as of next week... and all the weeks after that... he will take one member from the audience and beat them down until they accept the Straight-Edge lifestyle.

Mr. Punk's Time to Beat. The only 3-time "Straight-Edge" World Champion, predicted a fourth reign by first setting the time to beat (which no one would be able to break), followed by an impressive victory over The Undertaker at The Royal Rumble. Except his opponent was Matt Hardy, the older brother of the man CM Punk forced out of the WWE in a Loser Leaves Steel Cage Match back in August. CM Punk's best bet to take out Hardy in a timely fashion was to kick hard and go for submission maneuvers. Which Punk did for the most part, getting Matt in various sleeper holds, but he should have gone with the Anaconda Vice. In the end, Punk struck with the GTS setting the time to beat at 7:20.

Dolph Frizzed Out. The following Beat the Clock Challenge pit "The Big Red Monster" Kane against Dolph Ziggler. The Undertaker has mentioned before that nothing warms his dark heart than to do battle with his brother, but Kane went about this match the wrong way. Instead of relying on his body and strength to quickly put down his opponent, he changed his style to match speed with Ziggler. Dolph Ziggler, not off-base with the sheer size of Kane, as he has done battle with The Great Khali over the summer, is unfamiliar with taking down an opponent, let alone the Big Red Monster, in under 7 minutes and 20 seconds. Ziggler focused on the head of Kane, rather than his nimble legs, with various kicks and shots to the head, and applying a sleeper hold along with a body scissor to wear him out. This was a bad strategy, especially when time is running out with less than 30 seconds, a sleeper hold can take up to 2 minutes to fully cut off the air passage into the lungs of a normal person, let alone Kane. What is a mystery is when both men failed to beat the clock, Ziggler struck with the Zig-Zag; why didn't he do that 30 seconds ago? All he got out of the match was a lesson in strategy and a reminder to bring extra gel for his frizzy hair.

JoMo-McIntyre, Best Feud. Last week on WWE Superstars, John Morrison issued his championship rematch against Drew McIntyre for January 1st. Drew McIntyre, since coming to the WWE, has not lost a single match, and captured the I-C strap on his first try, would John Morrison be able to grant "The Chosen One" his first loss? John Morrison, no doubt, has been more aggressive as of late, and has shown more passion than in his whole wrestling career. He struck with everything he had, even an innovative standing moonsault kick on the barricades; but his "party" would end as he hung upside down, after getting his leg caught in the ropes. The referee admonished McIntyre for taking advantage of Morrison's predicament, but Morrison was able to pull himself together to connect with the Flying Chuck. McIntyre, unfortunate for Morrison, was able to withstand any offensive strike thrown his way, but it was due to Morrison's aggressive nature that cost the former champ the match. Morrison failing to listen to the ref when urged to back away from the corner, accidentally knocked down the referee with the assist from McIntyre. Despite losing the match via DQ, Morrison met up with McIntyre up the ramp to deliver much needed punishment. It was an after match brawl altercation that saw a fleet of referees prying apart these two superstars.

Women's Wrestling at its Best! Seated by the SmackDown announce table, The Women's Champion Michelle McCool and her protege, Layla sported homemade t-shirts: one which read "Piggy James *hearts* Food," and the other "We *heart* Glamazon." After last week's stare down from The Glamazon, Michelle McCool, without a doubt, feared the much stronger adversary. The divas' match was slated for Beth Phoenix against Mickie James, picking up from last week's ambush when Phoenix tossed Mickie James alongside the announce table. These two have had a storied-rivalry that has carried over from RAW; but would that rivalry be put on hold after a miss-queue interference caused McCool to accidentally kick Beth Phoenix in the face? After the match ended in DQ granting Beth the win, the team of LayCool ganged up on Mickie James, before Beth Phoenix cleaned house. Mickie James was stunned by the assist and Beth's sportman-like slap to the hand. But, the GlamAddicts were relieved to see Phoenix continue her dominance over the SmackDown women's division after administering a GlamSlam to Mickie James. Beth Phoenix has not befriended Mickie James nor will she fall victim to McCool's false admiration.

The Littlest Man with the Biggest Upset. Chris Jericho claimed that he is the omnipotent center of the WWE, and after winning his tag titles from DX, which allows him to appear on every brand, he will capture every other title that the WWE has to offer by first defeating the Undertaker at the Royal Rumble. To capture every title would be a monopoly that has never occurred or deemed possible, but if anyone were to ever attempt such a feat, and succeed, it would be Chris Jericho. In 2001 at Vengeance, Y2J defeated The Rock for the WCW Title and minutes later faced Stone Cold for the WWE Title, on the same night, to become the first ever Undisputed World Champion; so for Jericho to deem himself omnipotent in the WWE is not heretic, it's just facts. Chris' opponent in the Beat the Clock Challenge was none other than his old time rival, Rey Mysterio. 619, having lost his World Heavyweight Title match last week due to Batista's interference, looked to climb the proverbial ladder once more in order to be a 2-time World Champion. The two knowing each other so well had an intense match up, to the point that Cole and the rest of the fans were shouting for a quick cover. Mysterio attempted the 619 but Jericho grabbed him in mid strike and applied the Walls of Jericho. With a little over a minute left on the clock, people were anticipating the outcome. This is when being a wrestling fan pays off, because it doesn't matter who wins by virtue of the hell of a performance they put on. Mysterio attempted another 619 but it was countered in mid air by a Code Breaker! Both of these men went toe for toe, and it was unbelievable the reception they received, but in the end Mysterio managed a small package roll up... Beating the clock at 7 minutes and 19 seconds. Mysterio won with a second left on the clock!

Rey Costs Batista 1-second. The final Beat the Clock Match featured Batista against R-Truth, which should have been a squash match in record fashion. Even Matt Striker, after CM Punk's match, asked Todd Grisham which of the following matches would be able to beat that record, that was a joke because Batista could clearly throw R-Truth like a rag doll. R-Truth's body cannot compare to Batista's physical appearance, which is so intimidating that his veins look muscular. Batista could have easily struck with a spine-buster followed by the Batista Bomb and have been done in 45 seconds; however, Batista knows that he could do that, but he decides instead to focus his attention to his former friend, and current Time-to-Beat, Rey Mysterio. Valuable seconds were wasted with Batista's over-confidence and it cost him. He struck with the Batista Bomb and went for the cover, but he was counted out because Mysterio pulled the referee out of the ring. The clock should have stopped, and the referee should have ruled Batista the obvious winner, as he was about to count 3 with 3 seconds left to spare. Rey Mysterio was believed to be the winner, but "Official Consultant" Vickie Guerrero ruled otherwise. Next week, Batista will take on Rey Mysterio, again, in a #1 Contender's Match to determine Taker's opponent for the World Heavyweight Title at the Royal Rumble.

SmackDown Results: 12/18/09

Batista's Challenge: After being screwed over at TLC, Batista demanded that Teddy Long made things right. And by screwed over, we mean that, either Long did right with restarting the match - making it fair for both of the competitors; or, he was in the wrong because all the other times that the referee's decision has been made - despite the foul play that goes unnoticed - it doesn't get restarted. Remember, the chairs match was a regular match, except for the use of chairs as the only legal weapon. So when Batista went for the low blow - Batista just plain cost himself the match. However, Charles Robinson never saw the low blow so he was right to award Batista the title. But was Long being gracious to restart the match, allowing both competitors an equal opportunity, or was he looking after himself? Yet, Taker was still reeling from the effects of that low blow, and still managed to strike with the tombstone. So tonight, Batista claimed there was no one else in the locker room who would dare challenge him for a #1 contenders match and to automatically grant him another title shot, well... think again. Rey Mysterio appeared to take on the challenge. Sure, Batista has pummeled him to the ring mat on two different occasions, but what about when a shot at the holy grail is at stake?

First Match: John Morrison, R-Truth, and Matt Hardy vs. Drew McIntyre, CM Punk, and Luke Gallows. What was really strange about this match, the heels were in the corner of the babyfaces, and the faces over on the heel corner. I have never recalled seeing that. Even on WWE Superstars: Cryme Tyme was on the left side while Ziggler and Knox were on the right. It's just how it has always been. I wonder what was the deal with that? This match had great promise because these superstars are truly the top of their game today. John Morrison, with only one World Heavyweight Title shot under his belt, looks to be in line for the main event picture. CM Punk, a former 3-time World Heavyweight Champion, is an extremely skilled wrestler and has great mic skills. CM Punk also has a protege in Gallows, as Matt Striker took a passage from the Gospel of Luke: "Blessid are those that are poor, suffer, and are hungry, for yours is the kingdom." Can Punk and Gallow's Straight-Edge lifestyle really find them the kingdom? And by kingdom, are they sticking to the kingdom of Heaven, or the top of the mountain of the WWE? Then you have Matt Hardy, the man who will not die, is probably on probation with the WWE, since he's had two life-threatening surgeries within the past year and a half. Once Hardy remains off the hospital gurney long enough, I don't see why WWE wouldn't put him in the main event slot. R-Truth and Luke Gallows are just starting out, but they have the personality and the skill to move up the rungs of the WWE ladder. I really liked the match, we get to see John Morrison dish out some punishment to Drew McIntyre, who, not only has been undefeated since coming to the WWE, is now the new Intercontinental Champion. The match had a weak ending - CM Punk, with the assist from Gallows, took his Slammy and knocked Hardy, without the ref's awareness of course, and went for the cover. The winners were: Drew McIntyre, CM Punk and Luke Gallows.

Second Match: Eric Escobar vs. Kane. Escobar keeps getting himself in to trouble, and this week was no different. Kane, who has advanced in the ECW Homecoming tournament (see ECW review for this week), was Escobar's opponent. Obviously, if Zack Ryder can't defeat him, how can a newbie like Eric? Chokeslam city was all he wrote, and Vickie went to gloat on his pain. Escobar proclaims that he may be in pain today but he'll heal, yet she will always be ugly. Escobar turning into a face at Vickie's expense.

Third Match: Chris Jericho vs. The Great Khali. The much anticipated return of Khali? Says who?? Matt Striker. I certainly wasn't anticipating Khali's return. I actually thought SmackDown ran better without him. The only thing about him that is remotely interesting is his sheer size, and the toned muscles that he use to have. However, the Playboy has let himself go as he now has love handles. Chris Jericho vows to be back on RAW, title-or no title, but losing his first match as a non-Unified Tag champion is certainly not the way to go. Jericho lost via count-out, as he refused to continue fighting against Khali.

Fourth Match: The Hart Dynasty vs. Jimmy Wang Yang and Slam Master J. Turns out Jimmy Wang Yang has a slightly altered gimmick that I would like to mention, he now wants to referred as the Asian Redneck Gangsta. Wait... The Asian Redneck Gangsta.....? NO! NO!! What in the heck WWE!?!? You CAN NOT do that! Striker's hilarious, Todd Grisham asked Striker on his thoughts on Dennis Miller's suggestion to have Bret Hart as a guest host. Striker replied, "Its Mr. McMahon, you wanna stay here, or do you want to go somewhere else," that was hilarious. The last time these two teams fought was on WWE Superstars, yet, a different show didn't alter the outcome - by much. Last week, Natalya scoop slammed Yang, but this week it was Slam Master J who would see how strong Natalya really is. Then, J would see how strong Tyson Kidd and DH Smith were with the Hart Attack. We learn that Hart Dynasty will be facing off against DX for the Unified Tag Team Championships, come Christmas Day. Can the Hart Dynasty be able to fend off against the Best in the Biz? or will they prove to be Better than the best, period?

Fifth Match: Beth Phoenix vs. Maria. Beth was right when she unplugged their SmackDown vs. RAW 2010 the video game, Maria and Mickie James should stop playing games and look for competition. Beth has the right mentality. This match had its significance. While Maria may be the Diva of the Year for 2009, as voted by the fans, Beth Phoenix was the Diva of the Year 2008 as voted by the committee. Maria may feel special that the WWE Universe may be behind her, but Beth Phoenix is a 2-time former Women's Champion. And as we noticed in the match, Phoenix overpowered Maria as a pure athlete should. Phoenix may not have graced the cover of Playboy or made her own wrestling attire, but at least Phoenix remains focused in the spirit of competition, and looks to dominate all who come before her. The winner was Phoenix with the Glam Slam.

#1 Contender's Match for World Heavyweight Title: Batista vs. Rey Mysterio. Rey Mysterio, a man that should have taken off to tend to his injuries, has remained in the WWE for one reason, and one reason only - for a World Title shot. Matt Striker claims that this is the Batista he always knew, the Batista who never never cared about the fans - the Batista who only cared about himself and no one else. Hence, why it is symbolic that the spotlight resides on him throughout his entrance, and the theme "I Walk Alone," finally makes sense. Batista's strenght has always come from his abundant protein intake to make his body more resilent than anyone else's; however, when going up against someone as unpredicatble as Rey Mysterio, it is best to keep a high-flyer grounded at all times. Batista's downfall occured when he attempted a high flying maneuver and was blocked by a a drop kick from Mysterio. Another weakness to note, Batista is not flexible, so when Mysterio caught him in a small-package roll up, Batista could not bring himself to kick out.

Final Assessment: The Batista-Mysterio feud looks like it is far from over. I foresee Batista interferring with Mysterio's title match - costing him the win, just like Mysterio did at Bragging Rights. The confrontation between the two is getting better, and the heat between these two is igniting beautifully. As for the Unified Tag Team Title Match, it has been rumored that Hornswoggle will appear on the SmackDown taping - possibly costing DX the titles, or - depending how the court session goes this Monday - help them retain. Hornswoggle can become the third member and make things even, seeing as Hart Dynasty has the beautiful Natalya.

The Undertaker Responds; John Morrison is Braveheart; Hardy falls to the Gallows Pole

First Match: CM Punk and Luke Gallows vs. Matt Hardy and R-Truth. The Jeff Hardy: My Life, My Rules DVD is flying off the shelves, why? Because there are people who want to be drugged by a man who will make them believe that they can fly - or so said The Straight-Edge CM Punk while holding the alleged digital video disc collection. Matt Hardy, the brother of Jeff Hardy, came out with R-Truth carrying a duffle bag filled with Jeff Hardy DVDs, passing them to the crowds. CM Punk shouted, "Sell it on eBay!" The past two weeks, R-Truth and Matt Hardy have won separate matches against CM Punk due to Luke's interference with the match. Now, these victims of the Gallows Pole, have teamed up to face off Punk and Gallows in tag team action. Yet, Hardy could not Twist Luke's Fate, nor could Truth Detect Punk's lies. The Veteran, Matt Hardy fell once again to The Twelfth Step, the Gallows Pole for the win. Is Straight-Edge really the way to go?

Handicap Match: Jeri-Show vs. Eric Escobar. Despite falling to the Hart Attack and being slapped by his ex-girlfriend, Escobar was relentless in making fun of Vickie this week. The match was originally a one-on-one match against Chris Jericho, who Escobar really had the advantage for some reason, but it was changed into another handicap match with The Big Show added to the list. Jericho was knocked out of the ring when the announcement was made, and what did Escobar do as Show walked down the ring? Exactly what I would have done, Get Jericho back into the ring and go for the cover! Jericho kicked out and brought in Big Show. I thought it would end in two seconds, just like Jericho did to Gaspard last week with the KO Punch, but Show knocked him around the ring, weakening him enough to tag in Jericho. He applied the Walls of Jericho, forcing Escobar to aggressively tap out. And of course, Jericho campaigned, once again, for the TLC match and how they will destroy DX and the DX Army. I wonder when DX will campaign?

Braveheart Face Off. Drew McIntyre came out telling the people that Mr. McMahon personally endorsed him into SmackDown and saw him as the future of the WWE. He claimed that the only thing stopping him from becoming the Intercontinental Champion is John Morrison, who he defeated last week. Then, the bag pipes were playing, and out of no where, John Morrison appeared as William Wallace! He had the blue/white face, the kilt, and the mighty sword. The Shaman of Scottish Lore? spoke in a Grounds Keeper-like scottish accent, totally making fun of McIntyre's culture. Unlike the Celtic Warrior, Sheamus, McIntyre draws his strength from the modern era and does not rely on Scottish Lore to dictate his life. Morrison was hilarious as William Wallace, and did what he came dressed to do, punched McIntyre in the face! This Sunday, John Morrison will defend his title against Drew McIntyre at the TLC PPV. Will The Shaman of Sexy remain champion, or will McMahon's intuition be right?

Third Match: Kane vs. Mike Knox. Last week, Kane defeated Knox with a chokeslam and did so again this week. The difference was, Knox asked for this match because he feels that they are one and the same. Kane said that they are nothing alike and tried choking him. Knox, a kinesiologist, seemed to enjoy the asphyxiation applied by Kane, creating a euphoria in the lungs. It seems as if Kane likes to deal out punishment, while Knox likes to take it - sounds like Mick Foley in any WWF feud.

Fourth Match: Mickie James and Maria vs. Michelle McCool and Layla. I believe we all foresaw this match coming. Last week, after Mickie James became the #1 contender for McCool's Women's Title, was outnumbered by both McCool and Layla, until Maria evened the odds. The sad thing, Maria has about two years more than Layla in the WWE, and she's on the same level of inexperienced wrestling ability as Layla. Believe me, I'm happy that Maria is back and all, but she cannot put on a match to save her life. Hence, when Maria finally became the #1 contender for McCool's Divas' Title, she tapped out in like 2 minutes. When Mickie James was tagged in, McCool tagged out to Layla. Bad idea, seeing as Layla cannot out-wrestle Mickie James in a million years; hence, why McCool lost the match cause Layla was pinned. Speaking of inexperienced women wrestlers, what ever happened to Alicia Fox? Don't forget that this Sunday, Mickie James will face off Michelle McCool for the Women's Title at WWE's TLC PPV.

Street Fight: Batista vs. Rey Mysterio. Why would Rey Mysterio want to be a part of a street fight against The Animal Batista? Why would Rey continue to wrestle when he has a knee that needs surgery? Mysterio is holding off on surgery until after WrestleMania. Why on earth would he do that? It's not like WWE is going to give him the title at the Show of Shows. Mysterio is digging a deep hole for himself, possibly shortening his career by at least... the rest of his life! But if Mysterio wants the crap kicked out of him, then a Street Fight it is! It wasn't much of a fight, Mysterio did everything he could, but Batista would just lift his arm and Mysterio would be flat on his back. Mysterio even executed the 619, but was too small, or Batista too roided out, to have a secure cover on The Animal. Why did Rey Mysterio ask for a Street Fight? Well, if you were small and unable to take down a big guy, wouldn't you want all the foreign objects available at your choosing? Problem is, that big dude also has access to those same foreign objects, so Mysterio would fall to a chair shot to the face - ending the match. After the match, Batista fixed Mysterio's neck inside the fold of the steel chair, and was going for an aerial drop from the top rope, until the lights went out. After two weeks of being humiliated and pummeled by a steel chair, it was time to return the favor, as The Undertaker appeared - standing where Rey layed - and started pummeling Batista. This Sunday, The Undertaker will defend the holy grail against The Animal Batista in a Chairs Match. What exactly is a chairs match? Pretty much a street fight with chairs as your #1 foreign object.

Batista Sends a Message; Mickie James and Drew McIntyre in line for Gold; Maria Returns!

First Match: CM Punk w/Luke Gallows vs. R-Truth. CM Punk has been fighting a crusade, trying to turn people away from the abuses of drugs and alcohol; and during that time he has acquired a disciple, Luke Gallows. Punk started his heel turn with preaching, now he has a follower. How soon until he forms an army of Straight-Edge superstars? And how long until he faces off against the Born-Again, or Straight-Edge?, Shawn Michaels? I would love to see that encounter, possibly a WrestleMania main event? R-Truth suffered the same fate as did Matt Hardy by the hands of Luke Gallows, who delivers the Inverted full nelson spinebuster. Truth may have won the match, but Straight-Edge is winning the war.

Second Match: Kane vs. Mike Knox. The bearded giant has vast knowledge in biology and the human anatomy, which he claims he can use that to inflict unimaginable pain on his opponents. There is something wrong with that statement, Mike Knox inflicts imaginary pain on his opponents, seeing as he has virtually lost every match. I'm usually not a fan of two monsters fighting in the ring, but they were fast paced so it was worth the watch. Despite a valiant effort by Knox, Kane finished him off with a chokeslam.

#1 Contender's Divas Triple Threat Match: Mickie James vs. Natalya vs. Beth Phoenix. A dream match for me because these are the three best wrestlers that the WWE has to offer! I liked how the other two got rid of Mickie early in the match, in order to devote some time between Natalya and Beth Phoenix.The two tested each other's strengths by shoving the other, only to find that they were evenly matched as they collided to the other's clothesline. Natalya attempted to win the match by applying the move that she used to beat Mickie James a few weeks ago, The Sharp Shooter! However, Natalya was pulled away and suffered the impact of the Glam Slam. Normally, Beth Phoenix would pick up the victory, but Mickie dropped kicked her out of the ring to steal the pin-fall victory. Mickie James is now the #1 contender for Michelle McCool's Women's Title. Mickie spoke adamantly about, not only becoming the Women's Champion again but, shutting McCool up once and for all. She ended her rant by knocking McCool over her seat and delivering a forearm to Layla. The numbers game caught up to Mickie, until an old friend came to the rescue. Here She Comes Again, Maria evens the score and both chase away McCool and Layla shouting, "That's right, I'm Back!"

Fourth Match: John Morrison vs. Drew McIntyre. Drew McIntyre was not only personally signed by Mr. McMahon and considered a future champion, but he was on the surviving team that did away with captain John Morrison at the Survivor Series. John Morrison told Teddy Long that he would take either Sheamus, Miz, or Drew on at anytime one on one, and that's exactly what Morrison got. McIntyre told Morrison that the title must be going to his head because who would want to face him, knowing the pain he ensues. The battle between these two was fierce, but with the assistance of the metal support railing underneath the ring, Morrison was primed for the Kobashi DDT. As a result, Drew McIntyre becomes the #1 contender for the Intercontinental Championship. Will McMahon's vision of McIntyre becoming a champion come true? Or will John Morrison leave TLC, still the Intercontinental Champion?

At TLC: (C) John Morrison vs. Drew McIntyre (Intercontinental Championship Match)

Handicap Match: The Hart Dynasty vs. Eric Escobar. After being embarrassed last week, Vickie Guerrero demanded an apology from her ex-boyfriend. Eric Escobar made his face turn as he apologized for ever having to be with her, and seeing her in her unmentionables. As punishment, Escobar had to face the Hart Dynasty in a handicap match. People actually got behind Escobar, not so much of his wrestling, but because we all hate Vickie. The Puerto Rican wrestler fell to the Hart Attack and then restrained so Vickie could deliver the finishing slap to the face. The Hart Dynasty escorted Guerrero out of the arena, but let's hope it was courtesy and not a plea for a new manager.

Main Event: Jeri-Show vs. Cryme Tyme. Chris Jericho, in an interview, was asked of the dangerous weapons used in a TLC match. Jericho scoffed at Matthew's lack of understanding the true significance of a steel chair, or a 20ft ladder, or the shattered splintered effects from a wooden table; but most importantly, that he has the greatest weapon in his arensal, The Big Show. In their match with Cryme Tyme, Jericho and JTG started things off. Yet, as soon as both Show and Shad were tagged in, Show KO'ed Shad in under 3 seconds. DX beware because Jericho has the World's Largest Athlete.

Undertaker Calls out Batista. Last week, after being declared the #1 contender, Batista interrupted Taker's match in order to deliever a steely message. This week, Undertaker wanted a heart to heart with the Animal and possibly talk about messing with the wrong man. That never took place as Batista assualted the World's Heavyweight Champion, during Taker's iconic entrance, with a stel chair. Batista stood above Taker, shirtless, holding the steel chair and the World Title - the two things that symbolize this match, but will Batista be the one left standing, or will The Deadman walk out still the World Heavyweight Champion?

Chris Jericho, More than a Match for The Undertaker; Straight-Edge is The Truth!

First Match: CM Punk vs. R-Truth. CM Punk filed a complaint to the WWE Board of Directors over Scott Armstrong's blatant disregard of professionalism, in regards to losing a match last week, against R-Truth, from a fast 3-count. Punk also took the time this week to lecture the British people on how they were drowning their pathetic lives in alcohol and drugs. He believes that Straight-Edge is the way, and it is What's Up! R-Truth talked some smack, and then gave Punk a beat down. But Todd Grisham was right, is this how we settle disputes, with complaints to the Board of Directors? What ever happened to settling things in the ring? Well, the only thing that got settled was the score, as Punk stole a pin with the assist from the ropes. Will R-Truth file a complaint, or will we be seeing these two back in the ring next week?

Second Match: Mickie James vs. Natalya. Word has gotten around that Mickie James is frustrated with her current standing within the WWE. It has been four years since Mickie James captured her first Women's Title at WrestleMania, and things haven't exactly been a glamours career. With the top women's wrestlers of the time now wrestling elsewhere or retired, WWE has ushered in a new era of weak barbie-doll models. The spirit of competition is dead within the Divas' division, and appearances are watered down to tag team matches and swim suit contests. Since joining SmackDown, it seems as if Mickie James is ready to move on from the wrestling business and spend time with her horses. This match up against Natalya was one that I wanted to see, since Neidhart's arrival in late 2007; however, it was overshadowed by McCool and Layla destroying Mickie's ring gear. As she looked on, Natalya locked in the Sharpshooter to force Mickie to tap out. Destruction of personal property is shades of when Cryme Tyme auctioned off Lita's clothes, shortly after her retirement match. It was to be expected since McCool and Layla did warn Mickie to leave SmackDown, a threat that should not be taken lightly- recall Maria? Her friendship with Melina was severed because of those two. Will Mickie James cower away or will she fulfil her promise and end McCool's reign as Women's Champion?

Third Match: Finlay vs. Drew McIntyre. McIntyre spoke, before the bell rung, about how Finlay was not worthy enough to waste his time, but seeing as he is a man that loves to fight, he would accept it. Finlay attempted to strike McIntyre with the shillelagh, but it was used against him. McIntyre delivered several blows to the midriff of Finlay, now he knows how it feels to be hit with a shillelagh.

Contract Signing: Rey Mysterio and Batista. The contract signing was overseen by Matt Striker to make the Survivor Series match between Rey Mysterio and Batista official. The contract was quickly signed and Batista presented an additional contract, relieving him of any liability to the condition he leaves him in after the match is over. The only noteworthy action that took place was Mysterio embarrassing Batista by flipping the table over him. Will Mysterio be able to take down the animal, or will his return be short lived?

Fourth Match: (C) John Morrison vs. Dolph Ziggler (Intercontinental Championship Match). Dolph Ziggler had all the momentum going into this match, defeating Morrison 2 weeks ago, and being on the winning team against Morrison last week. Both times, Ziggler delivered punishment to the abs of John Morrison. The two were relentless, Ziggler never tasting gold, while Morrison thriving under the pressure of defending it. But the course of the match led to decking punches on the top turnbuckle, falling off, and failing to answer to the 10 count; therefore, seeing as it was a double count out, John Morrison retained the title. Next week, Morrison will have to defend the title against Dolph Ziggler for a fourth time. Really? No other competition?

Next week: (C) John Morrison vs. Dolph Ziggler (2 out of 3 Falls Count for the Intercontinental Title).

Fifth Match: Beth Phoenix vs. Lisa Taylor. The best competitor that England had to offer was not enough for Beth Phoenix and The Glam Slam. Another squash match.

Main Event: (C) The Undertaker vs. (C) Chris Jericho (Non-Title Match). The match Five Years in the making: The Phenom has dominated the WWE for 20 years, and Chris Jericho has become the best in the world at what he does in the last 10; but after all the opponents, all the titles, these two have never faced each other. Chris Jericho believes he is the true Phenom of the WWE, and maybe he is... Jericho never let up on Undertaker, he kept him down with a series of punches, kicks, and taunts. In addition, Jericho's greatest submission, The Walls of Jericho, works perfectly on a man of Taker's stature, because longer legs generate a far severe strain to the lower back. Sadly, Jericho's CodeBreaker was not enough to subdue the World's Heavyweight Champion, and after attempting to go to the well one too many times, Taker locked Jericho is Hell's Gate and forced him to tap out. Yet, a decisive victory did not mean Undertaker would leave gracefully, as the other half of the Unified Tag Team Champions came to lock Taker in the Colossal Clutch while Jericho had him in The Walls of Jericho. But the man, or monster, that Jericho defeated 2 weeks ago to become the 2nd contender for Taker's Title, arrived to the ring to aid his brother. Jeri-Show was quick to back away from Kane, but how will they fair when next week, they must go against the Brothers of Destruction in tag team action?
