ECW Results: 2/15/10 - The Final E-C-DUB

R.I.P ECW 1992-2001, 2005

I'm not going to lie to you and say that ECW ended on February 15, 2010, because this was not ECW. ECW was not a brand, it was a promotion started in Philadelphia in 1992 under the name Eastern Championship Wrestling, until it evolved into what fans knew around the world as Extreme Championship Wrestling. Unlike Eastern-CW, Extreme Championship Wrestling focused on a mature male demographic.

ECW earned its reputation by becoming the true alternative to cartoon wrestling of World Wrestling Federation and World Championship Wrestling, by becoming the grittiest, explicitly violent, unedited program on television.

Extreme Championship Wrestling was truly a land of hardcore as it innovated specialty matches, which included Barbed wire match, Flaming Tables match, and Singapore Cane match.

I feel both ECW and my announcing career should have been retired after the ECW One Night Stand pay-per-view in 2005. WWE was classy enough to give everyone who was ever involved with the Original ECW, all of us who worked for the promotion and the rabid fans who made ECW, the closure we all emotionally craved. - Joey Styles

WWE purchased ECW's assets after Paul Heyman filed for bankruptcy and the promotion ended in 2001. WWE used the ECW video library to compile a three-disc DVD: The Rise and Fall of ECW, with a three-hour documentary of the company's history. With the video library and a series of books, interest for the Hardcore promotion was revitalized leading to WWE organizing the One Night Stand pay-per-view in 2005 with ECW Alumni. The success of that pay-per-view is what launched the travesty that was ECW as the third brand of the WWE.

According to Joey Styles, the voice of ECW, One Night Stand in 2005 was the true ending of ECW, and the brand, along with his announcing career, should have ended after that night. However, things don't usually end the way you want them to.

Mr. McMahon revitalized ECW by hiring ECW Alumni to jump start the brand: Tommy Dreamer, Rob Van Dam, Sandman, Sabu, and Balls Mahoney; along with a slew of new superstars: C.M. Punk, Mike Knox, Elijah Burke, Kevin Thorn, Marcus Corvon, Ariel, and Kelly-Kelly.

WWEECW, or EC-DUB, really had no sense of direction as one by one the ECW Originals were released from the WWE. Then on December 29th, Tommy Dreamer wrestled his final match and released himself from his contract; thus ending any ties to the Original ECW.

Without even realizing it, EC-DUB became not a land of extreme, but of opportunity. Wrestlers such as C.M. Punk, Kofi Kingston, and Evan Bourne got their start in EC-DUB, while other superstars drafted there, would return to the major brand with either a new gimmick or new perspective on their career. Hence, why Mr. McMahon and the rest of the WWE had decided to scrap the whole EC-DUB programming to create a newly innovative show with it's sole purpose to creating new stars.

NXT Roster: The Controversy of Daniel Bryan

Next week, WWE will feature the new show NXT where eight pros will mentor eight rookies in a reality-television style programing.

The roster is as follows: Chris Jericho and Wade Barrett; William Regal and Skip Sheffield; Carlito and Michael Tarver; Matt Hardy and Justin Gabriel; Christian and Heath Slater; R-Truth and David Otunga; C.M. Punk and Darren Young; and The Miz and Daniel Bryan.

The rookie that stands out from the pack is Daniel Bryan, or "The American Dragon" Bryan Danielson. There is no denying that Daniel Bryan has the most experience out of any NXT Rookie, but he is far from a superstar. Sure, Daniel possess more wrestling ability than probably half of the current WWE roster, yet he needs help to get to the next level.

A lot of people were upset over the announcement that The Miz would be mentoring the American Dragon - because shouldn't it be the other way around? Most of these discrepancies came from wrestling-internet fans who have watched Daniel fight in Japan and ROH; but fighting for a crowd below 900 people is nothing compared to fighting in sold out arenas around the globe, with everyone chanting, buying merch, and a multi-billion dollar company investing money in your development.

When The Miz first arrived in 2006, he wasn't much of a sight. And no way in the history of ever would I have pegged Miz to one day hold the United States and the Unified Tag Team Titles; but he was given that opportunity by developing in EC-DUB alongside Johnny Nitro/John Morrison.

Daniel Bryan has all the talent in the world, but every wrestler has weaknesses. And that's what my job is, to find his weakness and make him the biggest star possible. - The Miz

No wrestler is born with the total "superstar" package, and Daniel Bryan's flaw is his mic skills and lack of charisma. NXT will be a great opportunity for not only the rookies, but for the pros to impart their wisdom and contribute to the growth of the WWE.

Final EC-DUB Title Match: Extreme Rules (Sorta)

Christian acknowledged the ECW Originals, working with Tommy Dreamer, mentoring Yoshi Tatsu, and what EC-DUB meant for him. I certainly felt that Christian should have made a bigger impact on his return to the WWE, and that EC-DUB was a demotion. But Christian didn't see it that way, he say it as his home. Possibly because for the past year, EC-DUB became his personal Peep Show.

Christian accepted Ezekiel Jackson's challenge for the ECW Title, and added, on his own accord, to defend it under Extreme Rules. Yet, the extremeness of a WWE Extreme Rules match is considered a paper cut to the ECW Originals who bled, stabbed, pierced, broke, and burned their bodies every night to make those three letters mean something. Christian arrived with Singapore canes, a trash can, and a shopping cart to set the overall tone of the match. Ezekiel brought his own weapon, a cunning manager in William Regal.

Zack Ryder, who felt should have been a part of the final match on EC-DUB, interfered with the match, but ended up getting flap jacked into the trash can and thrown - face first - over the ropes. Rosa Mendes slapped Christian - and what would have been ECW of him to strike a woman, allowed for a nice treat - then, after tonight, former-ECW GM Tiffany came running down the ramp and speared Rosa Mendes. Both Rosa and Tiffany have trained in FCW, and after this scene, not only is Tiffany beautiful, she is deadly.

The numbers game became too much for Christian, as he fended off William Regal with a Killswitch, only to be thrown back first through a table and covered by Ezekiel Jackson. After holding the title since Night of Champions - defeating Tommy Dreamer for the strap - Christian's reign of ECW Champion ended, and the title of Final ECW Champion went to Ezekiel Jackson.

Obviously, the title change means absolutely nothing because the title has now become defunct. The ECW Title joins the list of other defunct titles: Cruiserweight, Hardcore, Light Heavyweight, European, ECW Tag Team, ECW Television, and the WCW Championship.

In the hearts of the ECW fans, ECW either died in 2001 when it went bankrupt, or in 2005, when WWE provided fans with the closure it desperately deserved. However, let it be known that WWE bought out both WCW and ECW, and while the WCW Title was laid to rest when it was converted into the World Heavyweight Title in 2002, today marks the end of ECW's title history with Ezekiel Jackson, "The end has come, it has awakened, against you."

WWE Superstars Results: The Masked Man's Identity Revealed; Ziggler is Perfection

RAW Match: Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase vs. Evan Bourne and Primo Colon. WWE Superstars is truly the mid-card show, which is great because they are the future champions of tomorrow. And like Legacy's Theme, It's a New Day for them as they have been frequenting this show ever since Orton lost the title. As for Bourne and Primo - really? This union is entertaining seeing as two weeks ago, on the 3-hour Thanksgiving episode of RAW, Primo and Bourne were suppose to fight each other in a Break Through match, but Primo was unable to compete after an ambush by Orton. So taking out Rhodes and DiBiase would be the equivalent of taking out Orton right? Another thing these two have in common, they are both high-flying jobbers. This was actually a really good match, Bourne works well with Rhodes and DiBiase. Primo, on the other hand, annoys me, cause he jumps and does cart wheels that take away from actually delivering offense. By match's end, Primo launched Evan "Air-Bourne" to the outside onto DiBiase, but Primo was not ready for the Cross-Rhodes in his life. Legacy won obviously.

ECW Match: Zack Ryder w/Rosa Mendes vs. The Hurricane. Finally, an ECW match that I wanted to see. The Hurricane hasn't been seen since casting the Burchills from ECW two weeks ago; while Ryder was seen this past Tuesday on the Abraham Washington Show. Ryder, since he has the girl, has been more focused in the ring - almost like he is trying to impress her with more wins. Remember people, more wins = more pay = more shopping = a happy Rosa Mendes. Ryder has the advantage throughout the match, but Hurricane picked up some momentum during the end, until he was attacked by a masked man. Looks as if The Hurricane has met his match, a masked nemesis. He appeared in a scarecrow-like gas chamber mask and wore tights. Much like The Miz's strategy to remain on RAW by donning the Calgary Kid costume, Paul Burchill, on the money, is the masked villain. Sure, Burchill wears trunks, but the masked assailant executed Burchill's Dangerous Buster. This past Tuesday, Burchill was begging for his spot back on the roster, so why not remain on the roster through another identity? Plus, after being driven to the position, Paul is the type to fixate on the Hurricane's identity so much that he would conceal his own in order to finally reveal Gregory Helms' secret to the world.

SmackDown Match: Matt Hardy vs. Dolph Ziggler. After watching Mr. Perfect's IC Title defense at WrestleMania VII this morning, it is uncanny how much Dolph Ziggler aspires to be Mr. Perfect. Ziggler has got it down to the platinum curly hair, and the theme song which screams "Perfection." However, unlike Curt Hennig, Dolph Ziggler has never won the Intercontinental Title that he predicted he would win in 6 months, and less than a month remains. Could Ziggler's promise be a foreshadowing of his IC win either at the TLC PPV or a SmackDown prior to the new year? Matt Hardy, on the other hand, has faced a lot of adversity this year, having feuded with his brother Jeff, broken his arm, and ruptured his stomach lining. Will the end of the year end well for Matt as it did for Jeff one year ago when he won the WWE Title? Not likely, seeing as Batista will be contending for the World Heavyweight Title against the champion at the PPV in less than two weeks; but, Matt could become the #1 contender as did Jeff two years ago in the December PPV. No matter how the year ends for Matt Hardy, the pop that he received from the audience was immeasurable; it was his dream to become a famous WWE Superstar and he is living the dream. Last week, people were freaking out that WWE dropped Ziggler's push seeing as he lost to R-Truth - What did I tell you? Give it some time and Ziggler will come around. Ziggler pinned Matt Hardy, and let me just say, it was Perfection. I foresee Dolph Ziggler ringing in the New Year as the Intercontinental Champion.

WWE Superstars Results: Zack is Saved by the Cell; Ugly Use of Jimmy Wang Yang

ECW Match: Shelton Benjamin vs. Zack Ryder w/Rosa Mendes. The third match between these top ECW Superstars witnessed a strange, but different outcome. On ECW, Ryder demanded another rematch to prove that he could beat him, but did he really earn the victory? By the end of the match, Rosa noticed Ryder's cellphone ringing and called for him to answer it, in mid-match! She actually had the unprofessional audacity to enter the ring after she dropped the phone. The referee almost called the match while frantically ordering her to get out of the ring. Even Ryder pleaded her to leave, until she screamed at a flying Shelton, leaping onto the top turnbuckle - in hopes of attacking Ryder, while endangering Rosa. Zack, then, knocked Benjamin off and went for the cover. What looked like another easy win for Shelton, turned out to be Ryder's big Pay-off for having Rosa at ring-side. In the realm of professional wrestling, a wins a win, and you win by any means necessary.

SmackDown Match: Jimmy Wang Yang vs. Eric Escobar w/Vickie Guerrero. This was a disgusting display of professional wrestling. James Yun, aka Wang Yang, is an amazing high-flying wrestler who should not be jobbing to... another failed attempt of a Puerto Rican superstar. WWE should focus on building the Puerto-Ricans that they already have - The Colons - rather than trying with this uncharismatic "Puerto-Rican Nightmare." James Yun can actually wrestle, which is more than I can say for half of the WWE roster. Yun was a part of an amazing faction back in WCW, Jung Dragons, and to be in WWE as a jobber for Escobar? WWE clearly needs a real creative team that actually knows of which wrestlers should be pushed and others that should just be released. Eric Escobar won with a combination of Vickie's screaming and a running drop kick. Escobar covered Yang in, what I like to call, the Vickie-Mix Pin because it looks like the love making position he would apply on his manager/lover.

RAW Match: Mark Henry vs. Cody Rhodes. Last week on WWE Superstars, MVP got the better of Ted DiBiase, but would the other half of Legacy have a better shot of taking down "The World's Strongest Man?" And seeing as Randy Orton pinned Mark Henry two weeks ago, you would think Rhodes would also get the job done? We all know that WWE Superstars are pre-recorded extra matches, but to pretend that it actually takes place on Thursday is a little much; because this weeks edition of WWE Superstars saw the extreme difference between the Philadelphia arena and Madison Square Garden. Rhodes attempted to take out Mark Henry's legs, which, with two knee braces, seems like the best tactic to take down the Kool-Aid Behemoth. But the World's Strongest Man pinned Rhodes, not in front of the fictitious WWE Superstars audience, but the New Yorkers at Madison Square Garden. The World's Strongest Tag Team and Kofi Kingston enter the Survivor Series with the momentum for their team; however, CM Punk and William Regal, with wins over Christian and R-Truth, carry the momentum for Orton's team. Which team will survive come this Sunday?

WWE Superstars Results: The Million Dollar Son, Not Ballin;' Rosa Unable to Mend Ryder's Career

SmackDown Match: Matt Hardy vs. David Hart Smith. After the assault from Batista last week, would Matt Hardy be able to overcome The Hart Dynasty's greatest challenge? DH Smith is the son of "The British Bulldog," Davey Boy Smith and the nephew of Bret and Owen Hart; but despite his legacy, Matt Hardy is a multi-time champion within the WWE, and should not be taken lightly. Todd Grisham, who attempted to get an interview earlier with Smith, was greeted by Natalya, the mouth-piece of the Hart Dynasty. And she claims that DH Smith is in a class of his own because he is a master of suplexes and throw away slams. Matt Striker seemed to disagree as DH Smith only executed suplexes, especially one off the top turnbuckle. Matt Hardy attempted the Twist of Fate and a Side-Effect, but none would keep Smith down for the three-count. It was thanks to an attempted distraction from Tyson Kidd, that forced Charles Robinson to send both him and Natalya back to the locker rooms. While DH Smith was distraught over the referee's decision, Matt Hardy went for the small package pin to win the match.

ECW Match: Shelton Benjamin vs. Zack Ryder w/Rosa Mendes. On ECW, Ryder, despite being distracted in his last match, invited Rosa Mendes to be ring-side during his matches; in turn, Shelton Benjamin, who scored an easy win during their last encounter, would experience a similar outcome. As mentioned during the SmackDown Match, Matt Striker was not impressed by Smith's lack of throw-away slams, but would have been impressed by Shelton's throw-away slam. Later during the match, Zack Ryder fell over the top rope, in which Rosa went to attend the fallen superstar. Ryder was so smitten by her that he failed to realize that the referee counted to 10. And for some reason, Ryder dashed back into the ring only to be hit with Pay Dirt. Zack Ryder should seriously reconsider having Mendes around; but all-in-all, Shelton scores another victory.

RAW Match: MVP w/Mark Henry vs. Ted DiBiase w/Cody Rhodes. DiBiase believes that if anyone is ballin' it's him, because he is the son of the Million Dollar Man. This match was the debut of the newly named tag team, "The World's Strongest Tag Team." I don't know about anyone else, but first off: it's a knock off of "The World's Greatest Tag Team" name; and seeing as Jeri-Show has defeated them twice, doesn't really convey that they are the 'Strongest.' So is this where MVP's career heading? He can pull it off seeing as he was once one-half of the WWE Tag Team Champions with Matt Hardy, but I had high hopes for him as a singles' competitor. Especially when he bad mouthed Randy Orton on his first night on RAW, I saw him contending for the WWE Title... but he's tag teaming with Mark Henry. Orton should have recruited him when he had the chance. MVP attempted to win the match with a combo Ballin' Elbow and Playmaker, but DiBiase kicked out. And Rhodes tried to distract MVP, but "The World's Strongest Man" irish-whipped him to the turnbuckle; whence, DiBiase went for a neck breaker but was countered into a small package by MVP to end the match. Randy Orton may have pinned Mark Henry on RAW, but MVP pinned DiBiase and proves that he is BALLIN'!!!

Sex in the WWE

Sexual Innuendos are creeping their way back in the WWE, which has recently changed its product to PG. But is it really a bad thing? The age old slogan advertisers have lived by is that Sex Sells; but I don't see this as WWE's move back to the raunchy attitude era, but a reinforcement of the PG standards. The standards for WWE programing is meant to target the whole family: Hornswoggle's antics for the kids, the young up and coming superstars for the boys, the divas, who are beautiful and strong for the girls, and the innuendos for the adults. Most family programming, especially PG movies are embedded with innuendos to target a larger audience; don't believe me, then check out the opening scene of the CGI film, Robots.

The first innuendo was targeted during a confrontation between John Morrison and Dolph Ziggler, in regards to Morrison's loss at Bragging Rights. Ziggler started bragging as if he had a hand in SmackDown's victory, in which Morrison noted it as being "premature," a feeling that Ziggler is familiar with, "just ask Maria."

The second was between John Cena, Triple H, and Shawn Michaels, in regards to their Triple Threat match at the Survivor Series. In order to gain the psychological edge, Triple H mentioned "beating" Cena two weeks ago; and Shawn mentioned how he "beat" Cena last year in England, which is where RAW will take place this Monday. But Cena countered by reminding them that he has "beaten" them both; so they have all "beaten" each other. The innuendo was realized when The Bellas, overhearing the conversation, grew disgusted and left.

And the latest addition occurred on ECW, as Zack Ryder fell for Rosa Mendes, ECW's newest Diva. Zack Ryder blocked her non stop talking with a romantic-groovy music with psychedelic colors radiating from Rosa. But when asked how did she look in her new dress, he shyly said, "You know it," and squeezed his hair styling bottle, squirted a film of gel. I guess this segment should be named, "There's Something About Rosa."

Let's just hope there are no innuendos regarding Vickie Guerrero and Eric Escobar on SmackDown.

ECW Blames Tiffany; Hurricane Accepts Burchill's Offer

After last week's assault, Christian has had it with William Regal and wanted him in the ring, one-on-one. But instead of Regal, Christian was greeted by the presence of ECW GM, Tiffany, who holds herself responsible because she has refused Regal's requests for an ECW title shot. And despite her pleas not to give in, Christian was ready to give Regal exactly what he wanted in order to get him into the ring. William Regal accepted the title match, but under his terms that the match takes place next week when ECW is in England. Then Tiffany made it official under the condition that Kozlov and Jackson be banned from ring side.

Next week in England, Christian defends the ECW Title against William Regal.

Tiffany has stopped being the adorable GM and has become really incompetent. If she knew how to run her roster then maybe she wouldn't be disrespected every week by the Ruthless Round Table. It’s her fault Regal keeps attacking Christian and everyone else in the title hunt.

First Match: William Regal vs. Goldust. This match is considered a break for Goldust from having his taint handed to him by Kozlov and Jackson every week. Regal won with the Knee Trembler.

Second Match: Shelton Benjamin vs. Zack Ryder. Backstage, as he was gelling his hair, Ryder met ECW's newest Diva, Rosa Mendes. She started going off on how much she loves being on ECW, while Ryder became smitten with the Spanish Import. And, as luck would have it, she was the special ring announcer for his match against The Gold Standard. Except that it was more like bad luck as the distraction from Rosa applying lip gloss cost Ryder the match. Shelton connected with Pay Dirt and is set back on course to a brighter future in ECW.

Promo: The Hurricane listens to Paul Burchill's proposal. The Emerald Skywalker, penned by Josh Matthews, entered the ring with his Hurri-Cane, incase this was a setup. Paul proposed one final match to end the feud once and for all: If Paul wins, Hurricane must unmask; but, if Hurricane wins, both Paul and Katie Lee must leave ECW. Is it really a punishment? It’s pretty much a win-win scenario for the Burchills, either they unmask their foe, or they move up to either SmackDown or RAW. It was idiotic for Hurricane to accept, but that's what heroes do, accept all challenges.

Third Match: Vance Archer vs. Logan Jones. ECW’s newest acquisition is a former TNA star, and a 2-time TNA World Tag Team Champion. Lance Hoyt signed a deal with WWE in April of this year; training in FCW, he made his ECW debut last night against a local jobber. Mainly an exhibition match, Archer finishes with a Snap Reverse DDT.

Main Event: Christian and Yoshi Tatsu vs. Ezekiel Jackson and Vladimir Kozlov. The match played more like a handicap match, as Yoshi fought with both members of the opposing side. Christian tagged in to handle Kozlov and Tatsu took out Jackson on the outside. Christian won the match with the Killswitch and then Regal arrived to take out Christian. The Ruthless Round Table destroyed the ECW Champion, is this a sign for things to come?

Presitge Restored to the United States Title; The Miz's New Attitude

While on Smackdown, the United States Title was rarely defended, this explains why there were such long title reigns on the part of MVP, Matt Hardy, and Shelton Benjamin.

Yet, with its move over to WWE’s franchise brand – RAW – things were looking up for the United States Title.

Ever since Kofi Kingston won the strap from MVP on Monday Night RAW, the United States Title has been defended time and time again; sometimes one-on-one and other times in crazy stipulations – Fatal Four-Way and Six Pack Challenge.

Yet, crazy stipulations don’t generate credibility for a championship. It appears as a stepping stone for the next prize. That’s why I side more with one-on-one competition.

On WWE Superstars, United States Champion Kofi Kingston teamed up with Divas’ Champion Mickie James in a Mixed-Gendered Tag Team Match against Carlito and Rosa Mendes.

Unlike SummerSlam 2008, Kofi and Mickie’s titles were not on the line – but a pinfall on either champion can open up doors to a future title shot.

Which is exactly what happened when Kofi was pinned after a fatal Backstabber by Carlito; the pinfall granted the Southpaw from San Juan a Title shot last Monday Night on RAW.

The match was issued by RAW’s Guest Host, Freddy Prince Jr., in attempts to bring SummerSlam to the RAW audience, a little early.

Rosa Mendes once again came out to support Carlito, possibly his new arm candy. If you notice, Mendes is now showing off her flat stomach, probably happy that she shed the weight before getting the axe. Yet, it was funny when she got into the ring along with Carlito (She’s there for ringside support, not to join the match) – He looked at her and politely told her to get out.

The match was a Caribbean Clash of Cool vs. Boom! Carlito has shown more aggression in the ring and his fro dangles low – like an Emo-Caribbean Cool. Many times, Carlito was almost disqualified for not adhering to the ref’s 5-count, but it took the Trouble in Paradise Kick to ensure victory on The Jamaican Superstar, proving that he is a fighting champion and accepts any challenge.

Yet, this match wasn’t the end of the United States Title picture, but the beginning. The following match was not a #1 Contenders match, but it was proving a statement of who is championship material.

The match was Evan “Air” Bourne against the return of The Miz. Two weeks ago, Miz was banned from RAW indefinitely under the stipulation set by Jeremy Piven if he lost to Cena, which he did.

Rumors went around that he would be reassigned to a new brand – possibly start a feud with John Morrison over on Smackdown, or even pursue other projects in Hollywood. But the rumors were silenced last week as the Calgary Kid won the Contract on the Pole match against the returning and now released Eugene. The Calgary Kid was revealed to be none other than – THE MIZ!

The Miz stated before his match against Bourne that he has a new attitude, new look, but the same mouth. The Miz has traded his shorts for a pair of Ying and Yang trunks. I for one love the new look, it shows that he is serious about his wrestling technique – especially since locking Bourne in an Inverted Double Underhook Boston Crab.

Bourne put up a good fight, but Miz anticipated every high flying maneuver and secured the victory with a new finisher – The Skull Crushing Finale (Full Nelson Facebuster)

The Miz stated at the end of his match that this is the first step on his road to the United States Championship. If Miz were to defeat Kofi Kingston, this would mark his first single’s title.

A good part of the first hour of RAW was devoted to the United States Title: A successful title defense; and the promise of a pursuit for the title – Thus, restoring prestige back to the Title.

A Fatal Decision for the Diva's Championship

Maryse won the Diva's Title on December 26, 2008, making her the longest reigning Diva's Champion in history.

How did she accomplish such a feat?

By dodging as many title matches as possible. Her reign is impressive but her defense record is pathetic. Since then, she has successfully defended her title against Maria and Kelly Kelly - who are, let's face it, not the greatest wrestlers. Since drafted to RAW, Maryse has avoided Mickie James for obvious reasons.

Mickie James is not only a four-time Women's Champion, but she has also has an impressive winning record against the likes of Trish Stratus, Lita, Victoria, Melina, and "The Glamazon" Beth Phoenix. A match against James would be a guaranteed loss.

Maryse, knowing full well the danger of losing her title, interfered with the Diva's Battle Royal by spraying hairspray in Mickie's eyes - leaving Kelly Kelly to eliminate Mickie for a future title opportunity. Thankfully Mickie would have another opportunity during a Fatal Four Way Match to determine who would face off against Maryse at Night of Champions. This match was women's wrestling at its finest with an impressive array of wrestling maneuvers and close calls. Mickie attempted a Reverse Mickie-DDT (standing tornado DDT), but was put in a chin lock by Rosa Mendes - who was then put in a chin lock by Kelly Kelly. Each of these competitors were determined to challenge Maryse for the Diva's Championship.

Beth Phoenix - a favorite to win the match - would have won after she placed Kelly Kelly in the Glam Slam - an elevated chicken-wing wheelbarrow facebuster - but Mickie disrupted the count and disposed of Beth over the top rope where she was knocked out cold.

Mickie finally executed the Mickie-DDT on Rosa Mendes; thus, making Mickie James the #1 Contender.

In the weeks leading up to Night of Champions - How will Maryse prepare herself for the toughest confrontation in her career? Maryse's safest bet for retaining would be to intentionally disqualify herself. She would lose the match, but she would leave still the Diva's Champion.
