Rhodes-DiBiase Cement their Legacy; The Viper Quits

A match that could be determined anywhere, and I mean anywhere… was determined in the ring? D-Generation X and Legacy had a SummerSlam rematch – except, this time, it was a Submission’s Count Anywhere match.

In a previous article, I noted that Triple H has the Sharpshooter, while Shawn Michaels has the Sharpshooter, Cross-face, and The Figure-Four; but what do Rhodes and DiBiase have? And I was right, they would have to pull a page from their fathers’ handbooks – The figure four leg lock. Of course the submission was made famous by Ric Flair, but The Million Dollar Man and The American Dream have utilized the deadly move in their days – and last night it was used again.

The battle ensued from the ring, reaching the audience, to backstage. DX tried taking out Rhodes earlier: HBK applied the Camel Clutch and Triple H the Boston Crab Leg on a steel chair! How Rhodes didn’t submit is beyond me.

However, Legacy played a smart game and destroyed Triple H backstage – leaving Shawn Michaels helpless.

Now, Shawn Michaels has done this maneuver before, but I don’t think he would have thought that it would happen to him – Rhodes locked in the figure four around the ring post as DiBiase latched the Million Dollar Dream. Michaels did the only thing he could – seeing as Triple H was out of reach to be of any help – and that was the tap out.

This is by far the greatest victory in Legacy’s young career, defeating one of the greatest tag teams in WWE history.

However, not all of Legacy had such a triumphant night…

Randy Orton defended his WWE Title against John Cena. Now, John Cena didn’t earn another title shot, it was pretty much granted to him because just about everything is handed to him. The match had two stipulations: 1) You beat your opponent so badly that they are forced to say “I Quit.” (The last time this match occurred was between Jeff and Matt Hardy, where Jeff forced Matt to utter those words); 2) If Randy Orton receives any outside interference in his favor, than the title would be automatically be awarded to John Cena.

What is that all about? Is McMahon still reeling over the fact that Orton punted him in the head? Because even at SummerSlam, the match was restarted about 3-4 times by order of McMahon. All the odds were against Orton, and it was pretty much set for Orton to lose.

Orton methodically attacked John Cena by throwing him into the announce table, crushing his skull with a Rope Hung DDT, and then stomping his spine on the cold steel steps.

This was Orton taking it easy as he gradually became more innovative as the match wore on.

The Viper handcuffed the lifeless Cena to the ropes. Much like Legacy did to HHH as Orton Rope Hung DDT’ed his wife and then kissed her (forget about that already?).

But it wasn’t enough for Orton… he wanted more. So he double handcuffed Cena to the ring post and started striking at Cena’s ribcage. He attacked Cena with a Steel Chair repeatedly – and when Cena couldn’t bare it anymore – Orton threw water in his face so he can be conscious to feel the Singapore cane that came next. Then with malicious eyes, Orton started to choke out Cena with the cane, forcing the two words out of him.

Somehow, no one knows, Cena managed to slip out of one of the cuffs and locked Orton so they could be connected. It really looked like something straight out of a Superman comic book, as The Hustle n’ Flow of Thuganomics stood as a pinnacle of strength, while his foe scarred out of his mind begged for mercy.

The two returned to the ring and Cena used the cuffs to strap in the STF, with Orton’s own arm applying the submission that finally forced Orton to say… I Quit.

The WWE Title, the title that has eluded John Cena since No Mercy 2007, has finally been regained. John Cena actually endured a lot in this match – Orton gave it everything he had, but you just cannot defeat WWE’s Superman. It’s impossible. Just like Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior – Cena draws his strength from his fans.

The words that will resonate tonight’s Monday Night RAW, hosted by 7-Time Women’s Champion Trish Stratus, will be – THE CHAMP IS HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
